Houbara bustard Research & Rehabilitation Center Rahim yar Khan Profile:-

Houbara foundation international Pakistan was established in 1995 for conservation of the houbara
bustard in particular & wildlife in general, under the patronage of the last president of the United Arab
Emirates & ruler of Abu Dhabi ,His Highness Sheikh Zaid Bin Sultan Al Nahyan(R.I.P).That conservation
spirit is being kept alive by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan & His Highness Sheikh
Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The foundation implements & ensure the best possible conservation in
the field.

Aims objectives & conservation projects of Houbara foundation international:-


Prevention of the illegal hunting poaching & smuggling of Houbara bustard.Survey & protection of
Houbara habitats in Pakistan, especially the nesting & hatching of houbara bustard in cholistan
desert.Treatment of the sick & traumatized bustards before their release.Spread awareness among
communities living in around the houbara habitat.They also assist in relief work & distribution of the relief
items during natural calamities.Assistance to law enforcement agencies in houbara rescue & release.To
help propagate chinkara gazzelle in all habitats of Pakistan & also to assist in propagation of black buck.

Report of our visit:-


A 20 members team having 3 Faculty members and 17 students visited the Houbara Bustard Research
and Rehabilitation Center RYK on 11 September 2022. It was A general visit to explore fauna of Cholistan
desert.
The Motive of visit was to explore and get to know about the fauna of the desert and to find the areas
where we can research about biodiversity and fauna so that we can come again with all necessary
information about it and collect fauna easily.
We start our journey at 7:20am from IUB campus. After reaching there we visited the Chinkara enclosure
,it is a 5,500 acre facility,where a large number of chinkara gazzelles are being kept.A variety of 500,5000
plants like berry, sumer have been planted inside the centre for providing shade & fodder for gazelles,
and then we visited some ponds where we collected some of its flora. After that we visited the desert and
then went to visit the Lab of Houbara Bustard Research Center to see how to work in the Lab. Major Rauf
breifed the students about the lab.Houbara foundation was established on 1995 for conservation of
houbara bustard in particular & wildlife in general.After that students went to see the tunnel.
The purpose of visit was to go and see wherever we can explore the variety of biodiversity of desert.At
5pm we reached back to the university.It was a general visit we haven't collect any fauna out there.
The visit was very important for both zoology & botany students.Flora & Fauna go side by side.At
cholistan desert we can find diversity of flora & fauna which not only help us in medicinal values but also
in habitat restoration through annual aerial seed broadcasts.

Learning outcome Nature conservation projects :-


Houbara foundation international promotes & assist in various nature conservation activities.Survey &
protection activities in all houbara habitats of Pakistan specially in Rahim yar Khan ,Rajan Pur, District
Bwp(Lal suhanra).They offer internship programme for final year students of university of veterinary &
animal sciences Lahore.Practical experience on veterinary camps in cholistan desert study visits for
students care & treatment of houbara, chinkara gazelle & black buck.
Assistance of various organizations working for environment & nature conservation by providing financial
assistance for publication of books & magazines.
