INTRODUCTION
Online games has been widely part of today’s generation it has a huge
impact to everyone who have access on it. And have been deeply
embedded in the daily lives of games. Online games in this generation
has become the most academic Centre of attention especially teenager.
Due to this, these students experience lack of focus on their academic
performances. This study aims to acknowledge the wide impact
evolution of online games cut across neither all facts of society with
negative and positive effects nor advantages of online games. It is
also a mechanism for connecting player together rather than a pattern
of gameplay. Thus, this study is conducted to determine the associations of
playing online games of Senior High School Student of Bernardo D. Carpio
National High School.

Online games are a well- liked currently on a daily basis and it is the
essential part of today’s society wherever everybody spends abundant time
over the net games ( Rajathi and Ravisankar, India 2022 ). Online game is
now part of the human society a lot of students right now are using online
games for entertainment .Thus, it has the capability to affect the academic
performance at school.

Video games have an immense impact in the lives of their, it also distracting
students and compromise one’s jobs. Online games are played over some
form of computer network, now typically on the internet ( Aquino,I, 2019 ). So
basically these various personal activities performed by students outside of
the school premises, could include their engagement in mobile gaming
activities. By these some students use mobile gaming in order to past time.
Online games can also affect how a person behave. Thus, some people
learned to trash talk because of online games. Most of the time, students play
online games in their in their homes. If they have homework there is a chance
that they will get distracted, instead of doing their homework.

Student nowadays, more and more people are starting to use internet, at the
same time. Online gamers have become extremely popular especially to the
students as their stress reliever. ( Mirañan, 2019 ). A lot of people right now
are using internet. Student gamers use online games to relieve their stress
due to academic pressure.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM


This study aims to determine the effects of Online Games on the academic
performance of Senior high school Students of Bernardo D. Carpio National
High School Year 2022-2023. The researcher sought answer to the following
questions.

Specially, it seeks to answer the following questions;

1. Why do students engaged in the online games?


1.1 Sex/Gender;
1.2 Grade Level; and
1.3 Strand?

2.What factors contribute to low students academic performance?


2.1 Lack of Sleep
2.2 Lack of Focus
2.3 Financial Problem

3. How online games have significant effects on the academic performance of


Bernardo D. Carpio National High School Senior High Students ?
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The main goal of this study is to ascertain how online games affect senior
high school students' academic performance.

This study’s specific objectives are:

 Learn why student engage in online gaming.

 Explain to the students the benefits and drawbacks of online gaming.

 How students find activities where they can engage in other than online
games.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The researchers believe that this study will not only yield data that will be
helpful to them, but also to the student, parents, and teachers. After this
research, the beneficiaries will know the various effects of online games on
the academic performance of the students. This study can also help students
understand what online games can do to them.

The findings of the study were found relevant to the following:

Students- the findings of the study will help the students understand the
effects of online games on their academic performances.

Parents- the findings of the study will help the parents to be aware on what
can online games do to their children in order for them to teach their children
the importance of studying.

Teachers- the findings of the study will help the teachers to know why some
students are not taking serious in their academics.

Future Researchers- the findings of the study will help the future
researchers know the effects of online games on the academic performance
of the students.

SCOPES & LIMITATIONS

This study aims to determine the effects of online games to the academic
performance of the shs students.
This study is delimited only for the Grade 11 - Grade 12 students in Bernardo
D. Carpio National High School. It will be conducted inside the school
premises. The main purpose of this study is to identify the effects of playing
online games and determining if playing online games impedes the
accomplishment of their academic tasks.
DEFINITION AND TERMS
The following are the definition of each terms. It greatly contribute to your
vocabulary and to our study.

ONLINE GAMES- Are distinctive way of recreation and interacting with other
people in the virtual world, it also allows players to bond together in the same
environment. Furthermore, this kind of platform has a unique way of how
people interact with one another. To engage in this platform you need to have
a internet connection. A way to entertain each individual who use it.

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE- the student abilities to demonstrate the


knowledge they have learned in class discussions, tests, quizzes,
presentations and summative assessments how well perform academically.
Thus, this is not only evident to measure the capability of each individuals
success of their process.
