CAUSES
"The name society gives to the social order is “patriarchy”.
This social order establishes sex as a means to assign
specific activities, functions, relationships, and powers to
each person. This structured network of powers,
hierarchies, and values puts forward some models of
masculinity and femininity that are universal and opposed to
each other. Certain social mandates, or imperatives, sustain
the patriarchy."

for Malaysia in 2021 was 0.68, with
a score of 1 being absolute parity

GENDER INEQUALITY & DISCRIMINATION CASES IN WORKPLACE

COMPOSE
On The Basis of Sex
This movie is about Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s
journey from HarvardLaw School to the
groundbreaking gender discrimination case
she argued in federal court during the early
1970s. From Harvard, where she was one of
just nine women in a class of over 500
students, to the working world, where she
became a college professor when no legal
firm would recruit a young female lawyer,
On the Basis of Sex chronicles Ginsburg’s
experiences with sexism.

Gender inequality is demolished in the film thanks to Ginsburg’s great legal

method, which is still used today by feminists fighting for social justice.
When asked about the film’s realism, Ginsburg just had one quibble: unlike
her fictional counterpart, she never ran out of words when arguing her
argument in court.

According to the Exchange’s data, women are

becoming increasingly engaged in their investing
activities, accounting for 36 percent of new Central
Depository System (CDS) accounts opened year-to-
date, up from 34 percent in 2021 and 32 percent in
2020. In addition, female investors made up close to
30 percent of the total traded value in 2021, with a
178.4 percent increase in total traded value and a
194.1 percent increase in total traded volume
between 2018 and 2021.
“While these findings have been encouraging, there is
still much work to be done to improve financial
awareness and participation in investing activities
among women,”
“As a strong proponent of gender equality and
inclusivity in the marketplace, the Exchange will
continue to advance the gender equality practices in
order to close the gender investing gap. This includes
providing both men and women equal access to
investment opportunities available in the equity
market.”

The World's Women 2020 assesses advancements in women's rights, female empowerment, and
achieving gender equality in the global community, as has been done every five years since the
Beijing Platform for Action was adopted.

The World's Women 2020 is a compilation of 100 tales offering up-to-date evaluations on gender
equality development in the following six crucial sectors, with each story addressing the effects of
COVID-19 on women.

“Twenty-five years since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, progress
towards equal power and equal rights for women remains elusive. No country has achieved gender
equality, and the COVID-19 crisis threatens to erode the limited gains that have been made. The
Decade of Action to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals and efforts to recover better from the
pandemic offer a chance to transform the lives of women and girls, today and tomorrow.”

- Secretary-General António Guterres

“Women are on the front lines of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, in health care settings and in-
home care, in the family and in the public sphere. While data are still scarce, it is evident that women are
essential actors in this unfolding worldwide crisis. I call on all countries to accelerate efforts towards the
empowerment of women and girls and towards improving the evidence base to monitor progress: data
gaps in the coverage of key gender topics need to be filled, and timeliness and comparability of data over
time and across countries need to be improved, and data disaggregation and dissemination by age, sex,
location, and other key variables need to become a priority in order to fully measure and address
intersecting inequalities, respond to crises, and ensure gender equality by 2030.”

- Under-Secretary-General Liu Zhenmin

WAYS TO PROMOTE
GENDER IN DAILY LIFE
According to a 2017 World Economic Forum (WEF)
research, women worldwide only have 68% of the
rights, opportunities, and access to resources that
men do. These discrepancies, as well as the rate at
which they are being reduced, varies from nation to
nation. However, the WEF analysts estimate that if
we continue along our current path, it will take 100
years to remove gender disparities.

SHARE HOUSEHOLD CHORES
AND CHILDCARE EQUALLY
Each adult has a duty to take care of the home and the kids.
Consider whether the division of labour in your household is
equitable. In many parts of the world, women are still
primarily responsible for child care. According to a UN
research published in 2015, women in impoverished nations
perform nearly three hours more daily unpaid work
(household duties and childcare) than males, while doing
only two hours more on average in wealthy nations.

Studies show that having too many domestic

responsibilities might increase women's risk for mental
diseases in addition to decreasing their productivity at
work, which has an impact on their income.

BE AWARE OF IMMINENT
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
If you are aware that a friend or acquaintance is a victim of
domestic abuse or another form of abuse, seek assistance
and support. Physical hostility is not the only form of this
violence. Women are also affected by psychological abuse
(controlling, manipulative, and frightening behaviour) as well
as verbal assaults (cursing and threats). All of these
phenomena frequently happen in tandem. You are not alone if
you have experienced domestic abuse. Declare it!

The same UN research mentioned above notes that less than

40% of women who experience violence seek any type of
assistance in the majority of the nations where data are
available. Most of those who do turn to family and friends
instead of formal organisations and systems like the police or
health services.

REJECT CHAUVINIST AND
RACIST ATTITUDES
Do not say anything to make fun of, belittle, or degrade
women, black people, Native Americans, LGBTQI persons, or
any other historically oppressed groups. And if you hear such
remarks, don't remain silent. Tell your coworkers,
acquaintances, and family members to cease using
chauvinistic, racist, homophobic, and transphobic comments.
Speak to them openly.

Chauvinism is the unreasonable belief in the superiority or

dominance of one's own group or people, who are seen as
strong and virtuous, while others are considered weak,
unworthy, or inferior. It can be described as a form of extreme
patriotism and nationalism, a fervent faith in national
excellence and glory.

HELP WOMEN GAIN POWER

There are just 17 nations with female heads of state or

government, according to UN Women data from 2017. There
are just 23.4 percent more women than men on average in
legislative bodies. Find out the names of the female
candidates, especially those from neighborhoods with low
representation of women.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND
RACISM: ZERO TOLERANCES

Employees need a secure way to report harassment,

including sexual harassment and racism, without fear of
being identified or fired. Evidence-based crimes should be
punished. Also critical, according to April Reign, is "how
individuals who are most vulnerable are represented" on the
committee looking into the claims.
