KRYZA B. CASTILLO
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING-IIA
MRS. VALERIE LIM
COMMUNITY DUTY

OBJECTIVE:
1. To apply the knowledge, I've acquired from Community Health Nursing lectures.
2. To provide health education and services to the residents of Barangay Capo.
3. To enhance my social skills through interviewing.
Under the guidance of Class Instructor Valerie Lim, on July 28, 2022, we were given the
responsibility of doing our duty in the community of Barangay Capo, which is located within the
City of Ilagan in the province of Isabela. We traveled through the community in a jeep, and the
residents greeted us with open arms when we arrived. Along with my companion, Mary Rose, I
had the task of paying a visit to Ignacio's family. We were able to conduct an interview with the
family as well as provide them with a blood pressure monitor and used the family assessment
form for the interview. In addition to that, we went through observation of the surrounding
environment of the community. After the interview, our instructor gave us some instruction on
our health education topic, which was dengue and environmental sanitation. Following that, we
were tasked with developing a Family Nursing Care Plan. We also practiced together with our
partner how to get sugar levels using a pen let, a lancet, and a glucometer following the health
care procedures such as using cotton soaked in alcohol and aftercare methods. Those procedures
included using cotton soaked in alcohol. On the second day of our trip, we returned to the first
family that we had met and provided them with health education about dengue fever, including
how to avoid getting the disease and how to keep the surrounding area clean. In addition to this,
we were tasked with dissemination of information throughout the neighborhood about the open
clinic we would be running the following day and offering services such as blood pressure
monitoring to residents who had expressed an interest in receiving them. We also went to a
person who was afflicted with heart disease a visit and inquired about receiving some minor
consultation. In addition to that, we got some practice on how to get hemoglobin. On the third
day, we conduct an open clinic in the community. Here we offered free medicine, hemoglobin
tests, and blood sugar testing.

After the duty, I came to the conclusion that although challenging and exhausting, it is also
enjoyable. I was able to improve my ability to communicate with strangers due to the activities I
obtained. I also gained experience in working cooperatively, not only with the activities itself but
also with the other nursing students. I also came to the conclusion that some residents in the
community do not have access to medical health services because of their location. This led me
to the conclusion that despite this fact, I am still very lucky because medical health services are
accessible from my location and are nearby.
