Letter of Motivation

My mother was my first teacher who taught me the existence of logic behind everything
when she had engaged me into what-if & if else scenarios. My father and brother, with IT
Engineering professions, always taught Tech stories and developed my interest in it. These
teachings of my mother, father and brother, later on, helped me to choose the computer domain
for further studies. Meanwhile, in my teenage, I had been indulging myself in critical scientific
and social readings and taking away the comparative results out of it, which ultimately proved
as water for the fish of my field. This passion has convinced me, today, to choose research as
my profession and excel myself in it. For this purpose, Marie-Curie Scholarship is the best
platform to quench my thirst.
After completing my higher secondary education, my childhood passion forced me to
choose Computer Engineering as an undergraduate student. Here my core focus was on
Traditional Artificial Intelligence, Embedded Systems and Computer Vision. I decided to apply
my expertise in security and surveillance and built a War-Field Spy Robot with no distance
limitation. In this project, an uncertainty happened when unexpectedly the Govt banned the
import of 4G modules (the primary component of our project) due to security reasons. Being a
team lead, instead of losing nerves, I accepted it brave-heartedly and examined the Android
phones 4G module and programmed it as an alternate solution. In this way, all targets were
achieved on time and the project was saved from any unwanted situation.
The enthusiasm of getting more and more knowledge was increasing day by day. I wanted
to shift my title from Developer to Researcher so I decided to focus more on innovations in my
Masters. By keeping in view the 4th Industrial revolution and my personal interest I opted for
Artificial Intelligence as a career. Even when I was not familiar with this word, I did artificial
intelligence (symbolic) in the form of logic building and reasoning to make my machine
smarter. When I came to know about data-driven approaches, I moved to Deep Learning within
no time with an excited face. For my thesis work, I decided to find a gap in security and
surveillance.
My mission was to design such Neural Networks and finding such hyper-parameters that
provide the best accuracy for a particular application. Excitedly I performed multiple
experiments and studied the behaviour of outcomes but I started to get confused with these
results firstly. Then I started to study more research articles and publications particularly to
explore what other senior researchers have an opinion about. As much as I was going in-depth
for exploration all my doubts started to vanish and I started to enjoy this routine. As a result, I
achieved state-of-the-art accuracy in Pakistan and my work was published at the 2021 IEEE
International Conference on Artificial Intelligence. Also, I found an opportunity to work on the
advancement and implementation of this project when the Higher Education Commission of
Pakistan financed this task. The feasibility and reliability of this work were tested on different
hardware devices for edge computing. The more than satisfactory results were published in
Journal and also the product was handed over to the government of Pakistan.
Having research and industrial experience, my next objective was to help others with what
I have learnt and implemented so far. I joined PIAIC (an Initiative by the President of Pakistan)
as a Lead faculty member for Artificial Intelligence. Since the class batch was composed of
students and employees belonging from different sectors and regions, it was a great opportunity
for me to get exposure from all dimensions. I closely watched the problems faced by different
private and government sectors and proposed solutions, and helped people where I could, with
the best of my abilities.
Last but not least, I strongly believe ‘A sound body has a sound mind’. To have a sound
mind capable of good, positive and free-thinking, I do a regular gym that enables me to spend
my day actively, think creatively and act bravely. This practice of a couple of years has made
me capable of taking pains, strict to the long-term plans, patience and persistence.
Based on the above-stated experience and strong passion now I wish to continue my career
as a researcher in Embedded systems and Computer Vision to obtain a PhD degree.
For this purpose, Marie-Curie Program is unique in such a way that I can not only polish
my skills but also build a network across the Europe / world to get multiple exposures. After
completing the PhD, my heartiest desire is to continue my research work to bring some fruitful
outputs that ultimately would add value to the research world. Being a philanthropist I believe
my knowledge and experience in this increasingly important field will open new ways for
humanity and I will contribute to bringing academia and industry close with the help of applied
solutions. I hope to be considered for this post.
