Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Presentation of the Subject
“Class, have you ever shared your problems with “Yes, Ma’am.”
your friends?”

“What was their response? Did they listen?” “Sometimes, they do…”

“How did you feel when you were disregarded by “I felt down and sad.”
your friends?”

“In relation with this, our lesson for today is about

active listening.”

Discussion
“Class, Active listening is a particular
communication technique that requires the
listener to provide feedback on what he or she
hears to the speaker, by way of restating or
paraphrasing what they have heard in their own
words.”
“Are you actively listening right now?” “Yes, Ma’am.”
“Very Good, indeed you are, because if not you
will not be able to provide a response or feedback
to what I have just asked.”

“The ability to actively listen demonstrates

sincerity, and that nothing is being assumed or
taken for granted.”
“Why do you think active listening is important?” “Ma’am, active listening is important because it
improve personal relationships, reduces
misunderstanding and conflicts, strengthens
cooperation, and fosters understanding.”
“That’s right. It is also important to understand
that listening involves more than just hearing the
words that are directed at us. An effective listener
must hear and understand the message of those
sounds, critically evaluate or assess the message,
remember what’s been said and respond (either
verbally or nonverbally) to information.”

“And now, you will be listening to a song entitled

“Que sera sera. The song will be played twice; all (Students Listen)
you have to do is to listen actively to the song.”

2
(After Listening, several questions are raised by
the teacher)
“How do you find the song? What have you (Students share their thoughts about the song
understood about the song? they have listened to)
What are your insights about the song?”

Generalization
“Communication gives information. It helps us
understand what others communicate to us. It
helps us to analyze or to think critically. And this
includes your listening skills to have a good
communication and understanding.
Active listening can also involve paying attention
to the speaker's behavior and body language.
Having the ability to interpret a person's body
language lets the listener develop a more accurate
understanding of the speaker's message. The art
of active listening is more than just hearing what
the speaker has to say: it's about being an
engaged, attentive listener able to paraphrase
what has already been said.”
