verbal communication.”

me first present to you our learning objectives for

with our discussion. May I request everybody to please
read the objectives,”

expression.” That’s a good observation.”
“How about you Alex, you’re raising your hand.” Alex: “Sir I have a question, is it necessary to use
different facial expression in communicating? Or
“Nice questions Alex, take your seat first. Basically class isn’t it that communication is just about spoken
many think that communication is just about spoken words.”
words. Where in fact, verbal communication is not the
only form of communication.”

“Do you know this person class? “ Students: “Yes Sir”

“Alright, he is Mr.Bean class, he is perfect example of a
person who utilizes non-verbal communication. How
would we know if he is happy or he is sad? Anyone?” Harley: “Through his Facial Expression sir.”
“Perfect! Therefor facial expressions is necessary in
communication.”
“Did I answer your question Alex?” Alex: “Yes, sir”
“Alright, Thank you”

“Now, to illustrate further, let’s differentiate Verbal

And Non-Verbal Communication using these four
variables. Everybody please read”

Four Variables:
1. Medium Students: (Reading the four variables)
2. Channels
3. Examples
4. Decoding
“And now, what do you think the medium of verbal
communication?”
“Yes, Julian you’re raising your hand.”
“That’s correct, the medium of verbal communication Julian: “the medium of verbal communication are
are words, languages, voice, and sentences. words, sentences, language and voice.

“How about Non-Verbal Communication?” anyone? Claire: (Raising her right hand)
“Yes Claire?” Claire: “Our body sir.”
“Exactly. Take your seat first. The medium of Non-
Verbal communication is our entire body. Body
language, facial expression and any movement we
make in our entire body.”

“Questions?” Students: “None sir”

“Alright, no questions. Let’s proceed to second variable.
Which is channels.”

“How many channels do we have in verbal

communication? Anyone?”

“Yes, Jason” Jason: “we are only using one channel and that is
“Very good, in verbal communication we are only using only our human voice.”
one channel and that is our Voice. “
“How about to Non-verbal communication? How many Carl: (Raising his right hand)
channel do we have? Anyone?”
“Yes carl, share your answer to the class.” Carl: “In Non-Verbal Communication we are using
body language, facial expression, the tone of our
voice in speech and so on.”
“Very Good Carl, we have multiple of channels in non-
verbal communication and that our body language,
facial expression, the tone of our voice in speech and so
on.”

“Any questions class?” Students: “None sir”

“Alright, since no questions so far, lets proceed to the
third variable which is the Examples. “

“And now give me an example under Verbal Mark: (Raising his right hand)
Communication. Anyone in the class?”

“Yes Mark, Go ahead.” Mark: “ Example of verbal communication is

telephone conversation”
“Very Good, telephone Conversation. What else? Ella: “ Face to face interaction sir”
“Alright, perfect! Face to face interaction. Like what we
are doing right now.

“Now, what about in non-verbal communication. Can Students: (No one is raising their hands)
you give me an example anyone from the class?”

“Hmm. No one is raising their hand”

“This is quite hard class because it only occur in the

parts of every conversation that can see each other in
order for them understand what they are
communicating.”

“Now let’s proceed to the last variable which is

decoding.”

“Let me ask you this question. What is much easier to

decode? Is it Verbal Communication? Or Non-Verbal
Communication?”
“Anyone from the class? Yes Gino!” Gino: “sir, it’s verbal communication”
“Alright, the easier way to decode is Verbal
Communication because we are only using single
channel class and that is our human voice. While in
non-verbal communication we are considering multiple
channels, for examples the body language, facial
expressions, tone of our voice, pauses in speech and
the gestures. Those are the multiple channels that we
need to consider in decoding non-verbal
communication.”

“Questions! Are we good? Are we clear?”

Students: “yes sir. Everything is clear”
“Since you don’t have any questions Lets Proceed to
our second activity.

“This Time Class, you will be exhibiting the use of verbal

and non-verbal communication using or through a Students: (Counting 1 to 3)
short role play. But before that I want to group
yourselves into three by counting 1,2,3. Let’s Start.”

“Alright. Group 1 please proceed to the first row, group

2 for the second row and group three proceed to the Students: (Proceeding to their designated row)
third row.”

“Alright? So, for the instruction you pretend to be the

new student of the school using the following
personality. For the group 1 the shy type students, for Students: (practicing their role play)
the group 2 the happy confident students, and for the
group three the new students with an attitude. I’ll give
you 10 minute practice. Timer starts now. “

“Time is up. Group 1 please proceed in front and Group 1: (presenting their role play)
present us your role play.”

“Thank you so much. That was very impressive role

play. Give them a round of applause please!”

“and now group 2 please proceed in front and present Group 2: (presenting role play)
use your task”

“Amazing performance group 2. Let’s give them a big

hands please.”

“For the third group please proceed in front.” Group 3: (presenting role play)

“That’s awesome group 3. Give them a round of

applause please.”

“Wow very commendable performances”

“You know class there are actually many ways to

facilitate effective communication. How you use your
words, your body language, and the tone of your voice
and so on will determine how you are understood.
Evaluatively class, verbal and non-verbal
communication must work together, they must work in
tandem in order to deliver an understandable and
effective message.”
Students: “Yes sir”
“Are we good? Are we clear? Do you understand?
Verifying of Objectives

“Alright, you’ve done a great job so far in this morning

class. But before we proceed for final activity. Let’s go
back first to our objective to see what we have attain so
far”

“First, did we Differentiate verbal and non-verbal Students: “Yes sir.”

communication?”

“Second, did we appreciate the use of non-verbal and Students: “Yes sir”
verbal communication through peer activity;?”
“Third did we Perform a short role play using verbal and
non-verbal communication?” Students: “Yes sir”

“let’s give a round of applause to everyone”

Verbal and non-verbal communication using a graphic
