Dear Recruiting Partner,

I truly look forward to working with you to bring your International student clients to Barrie
School. We are located in Silver Spring, Maryland just six miles from Washington, D.C. and
offer a unique educational experience on a beautiful 45 acre campus.

Experiential and Project-Based Learning are two key components of our program and I
would be happy to share this with students and parents who are interested in learning more
about us.

 Barrie School has welcomed students from a wide array of countries,
including: Angola, Austria, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan,

Overview of Our Program
During the pandemic, Barrie School offered a robust distance learning
program. This included recorded classes to respect student time

In addition to the required coursework, students take English as a Foreign

Language (EFL) each year. There, they read and learn about American Grades 9-12 $34,210
culture as an extension of the core Humanities classes.
I-9 Processing Fee
Barrie School’s International Student Program Coordinator plans events $250
throughout the year that include pumpkin carving during Halloween, a International Fee
Chinese New Year celebration, and a trip to Hershey Park. $4,000

Each year, an International student is chosen to be the International

Representative to the Student Government Association (SGA).

How to Apply
Complete and submit the application form with US $150 application fee. The fee can be paid online
with a credit card. Please contact the Admission Office if you have questions.

Collect and submit these required materials:

● School Transcripts Teacher Recommendation Letters completed by the student's teacher and fully translated

Complete one of the required English Assessment tests:

● TOEFL minimum score of 76 required ● IELTS will also be accepted with minimum score 5.5

● TOEFL Junior recommended score of 750 or higher ● Duollingo

Complete an interview with Admission Officers (Skype and WeChat are acceptable).

Once all steps are completed, the application will be evaluated by the Admission Committee and an admission decision

Successful College Placement
The Director of College Counseling works with International students
on college admissions and supports them in:
• Identifying standardized test preparation programs
• Developing a list of colleges and universities
• Applying for summer programs
• Completing the Common Application and/or Coalition Application Writing personal and
supplemental essays
• Registering for the TOEFL examination, and
• Submitting Declaration of Finance forms to prospective colleges and universities.
International students from Barrie School attend New York University, Emory
University, Syracuse University, Georgia State University, Indiana
University-Bloomington, University of California-Irvine, and Lynn University.

After Barrie School
Jishen Wang ‘16 attended Emory University as a Business major where he
excelled in his coursework, and was active in student government.
While at Barrie, Jishen:
● Completed AP Calculus AB, and AP Statistics, followed by Multivariable
Calculus (a class usually taken by Sophomores in college).
● Achieved very high scores on the TOEFL as a result of our
Interdisciplinary Humanities Program which combines the study of
English, history, and other social science disciplines.
● Participated for four years on the Varsity Basketball team and was captain
during his Senior year.
● Was a member of the cast in several school plays and musicals, and held
a lead role in “Hairspray.”
