General
This document shows the placards, stencils and markings and gives their
location on the aircraft.
R This chapter has the parts that follow:
- Placards and markings on the external side of the aircraft (Ref. ATA
11-20)
- Placards and markings on the internal side of the aircraft (Ref. ATA
11-30).

For more information about panel location, refer to AMM Chapter 06.
Use the AMM Chapter 06 as the primary reference.

There are three types of placards and markings ATA 100 specification.

A. Safety Data
These placards and markings are used for the flight crew, and passenger
cabins, and for equipment safety. They include WARNINGS and CAUTIONS.

B. Maintenance Data
These are servicing and maintenance instructions.

C. By Local Regulation
The aircraft must have these placards and markings. When these types of
placards are shown in Chapter 11, they are identified by (1).

(3) FOTOFOIL type No.3


Standard No.1 and 2 labels are in plastic material with white letters
on black matt finish.
Type No.3 labels are in 0.076 mm (0.002 in.) metal foil for use in
skydrol zones with white letters on black matt finish.

or spare blades.

(1) Decals applied over a joint between two surfaces which move with
respect to each other.

(a) With gaps of 2.53 mm (0.0996 in.) and greater, cut the decal at
the center of the gap and wrap the decal around both edges. See
Method A.

(b) With gaps of less than 2.53 mm (0.0996 in.), cut the decal flush
with the front or upper edge of the joint and wrap the decal
around the rear or lower edge. See Method B.

(2) Decals applied across lap joints.

(a) The decal, when it is applied, is wrapped smoothly and


continuously around the edge of the lap joint. See Method C
(preferred method).

(3) Decals applied to exterior emergency exit handles. See Method E.

(a) Before removing the backing paper, place the decal on the handle
and slit the decal overlap around each rounded corner.

(b) Remove the backing paper and apply the decal, pressing the
overlap around the edges of the handle.

(4) Cut decals, except pressure sensitive Polyester, around the heads of
fasteners on removable panels and punch the decal into the recessed
slot. Cut and remove an area of film of pressure-sensitive polyester
decals the approximate size of a protruding-head rivet or fastener.
Allow the adhesive to cure for 1/2 hour before sealing the edges.

(5) Puncture the decal film with a sharp pointed instrument at each
rivet, of decals applied over pressurized areas.

(1) Remove the backing paper.

(2) Affix the tape by evenly unrolling and gradually smoothing out to
prevent the formation of air bubbles.

(3) Overlap the tape-ends and smooth out.

(4) Apply two coats of STRUCTURE PAINTS (Material No. 16-003) to the
band, overlapping the edge of the band by 10 mm (0.3937 in.) approx.
using a soft hair brush.

(5) If the paint becomes damaged, apply STRUCTURE PAINTS (Material No.
16-016) to prevent attack of the adhesive by fluid (e.g. against
hydraulic fluid) and subsequent separation of the tape.

(6) If the film of STRUCTURE PAINTS (Material No. 16-003) is excessively


damaged, replace the tape and renew the protective finish.

NOTE : Let the paint dry before you install the label.

NOTE : Do this work at a temperature between 15 deg.C (59.00 deg.F) and

30 deg.C (86.00 deg.F) and a hygrometry between 40 and 75 percent.

(1) Put the label in the mixture during 15 to 20 seconds.

(2) Install the label with the markings against the contact surface.

(3) Apply a pressure on one of the ends of the label against the support
and pull the other end up to prevent wrinkles.

(4) Apply a pressure on the label against the surface with a plastic
scraper.

NOTE : To prevent wrinkles or air pockets, you must start from the
____
center to the edges.

(5) Apply a strong pressure on all the surface with a rubber roll.

(6) At the same time, remove the unwanted solution with a moist sponge.

(7) Apply the moist sponge to the backing paper of the label.

(8) After 2 minutes, remove the backing paper.

(9) Lightly remove the remaining compound from the label surface and
around the label with a sponge soaked with water.

(10) If applicable, make holes in the air pockets with a needle, and apply
a pressure with the plastic scraper.

rivets.

NOTE : You must let the paint cure for 24 hours minimum at ambient

with a lint-free cotton cloth MISCELLANEOUS (Material No. 19-003)
soaked with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-003), CLEANING AGENTS
(Material No. 11-016) or CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-026).

B. Preparation of the Bonding Material

NOTE : Obey the instructions of the manufacturer and the safety

precautions to use the bonding material.

(1) Put fixative SPECIAL MATERIALS (Material No. 05-137) in a plastic


container (size sufficient not to fold the label) at a temperature
between 17 and 23 deg.C (62.6 and 73.4 deg.F).

4. Procedure

Subtask 11-00-00-915-068

A. Installation of the Label

(1) Put the label in the fixative for 30 to 45 seconds.

(2) Install the label with the marking against the contact surface.

(3) Apply a pressure on one of the ends of the label against the support
and pull the other end up, to prevent wrinkles.

(4) Apply pressure to the label against the surface with a plastic
scraper.

NOTE : To prevent wrinkles and air pockets, you must start from the
____
center to the edges.

(5) Apply a strong pressure on all the surface with a rubber roller.

(6) At the same time, remove the unwanted solution with a moist sponge.

(7) Apply the moist sponge to the backing paper of the label.

(8) After 2 minutes, remove the backing paper.

(9) Lightly remove the remaining compound from the label surface and
around the label with a sponge soaked in water.

(10) If applicable, make holes in the air pockets with a needle, and apply
pressure with the plastic scraper.

(11) If the installation is incorrect:

(a) If the label is moist:


- Remove the label and do the procedure again with a new label.

(b) If the label is dry:


- Apply a lint-free cotton cloth MISCELLANEOUS (Material No. 19-
003) soaked with CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-003),
CLEANING AGENTS (Material No. 11-016) or CLEANING AGENTS
(Material No. 11-026) on the label.
- Remove the label with a plastic scraper.

NOTE : The label is bonded after 3 or 4 days. During this time,

do not clean the label area.

A. Label Installation

(1) Apply a layer of BONDING AND ADHESIVE COMPOUNDS (Material No. 08-087)
to the surfaces (refer to the Vendors instructions).

(2) Install the label and apply a light pressure during approximately 20
minutes with the spring-loaded clamps.

(3) Remove the unwanted adhesive with a non-metallic scraper.

(4) Let the adhesive dry during 30 minutes.

NOTE : The label is fully bonded after 3 hours.

(5) Apply a layer of STRUCTURE PAINTS (Material No. 16-021B).
