WORLD WAR 2 and COLD WAR

Evaluation Questions: Cold War

1. What was the main point of cold war?

ANSWER: Three main components described the Cold War: 1) the threat of
nuclear war, 2) competition over the allegiance (loyalty) of newly
independent states, and 3) the economic and military assistance of each
other's opponents around the world.

2. What happens if a NATO country attacks another?

ANSWER: Since the treaty itself does not contain explicit provisions for the
management of war among NATO accomplice, the consequences of such
actions are not entirely clear. However, the treaty provides guidance that
could administer a potential, but controversial, answer.

Article 5: Ability to attack other allies

If a NATO member is attacked by another member, this would, in theory,
mean Article 5 of the NAT would take effect: An attack on one member is an
attack on all members of NATO. According to this article, attacking allies will
be targeted. The said member may be considered the initiator or "aggressor".
Consequences for an ally may depend on whether he is an aggressor or not.
In practice, however, identifying an aggressor in a complex military conflict
may not always be so straightforward if both sides are engaged. Even if it
were possible, the article itself is quite confusing and can be explained in this
case. This means that both countries will activate this provision.
