ASSIGNMENT 6 (Observing a student): Discretely observe one student in your assigned classroom

during an extended period of direct instruction.

Detail what was going on in the environment, and what you observed the student doing while the lesson
was being given. Make sure to document ALL behavior in relationship to what was being presented by the
classroom teacher. Please describe the setting, the lesson that was given, if the student was on task and
engaged in the lesson, and what you uncovered about putting yourself in a lesson from the student’s point
of view. >>>

Lesson: Informative writing

The student was eager to paricipate when the teacher asked questions. He would raise
his hand super high and even stand up while doing so. While the teacher talked, he
paid close attention and was not talking to his peers. After the lesson he had a
question so he raised his hand and waited for the teacher to come over to him. He
worked fast and got his final draft done and was able to move onto the arts and craft
portion. He was really excited for the arts and crafts. Doing a lesson like this where you
got to write about your favorite activity then create a miniature you seemed so fun for a
kid to do. It made me happy to just watch how excited all the students were.
