2.0 GENERAL INFORMATION

2.1 Safety Directions
The manual contains important measures to be observed when operating and handling the
unit.

The manual is directed to users involved in operating and servicing the conveyor. The manual
should always be available to the operating staff.

The manual should be read through before the drying unit is put into operation. The section
pertaining to Safety is especially important to the operating staff, as it also contains
information of signboards and their meaning.

2.2 Reliability
Capacity and liability of the Labotek Mini-Feed are dependent on competent operation and
careful maintenance. Misoperation and insufficient or inadequate maintenance may cause
stoppage.

Sufficient and lasting reliability may be achieved only by correct operation and careful
maintenance.

A qualified operator, following the correct procedures must operate the Mini-Feed. See
section “Operation” for information on the correct operation of the drying unit.

See section “Maintenance” for a thorough description of maintenance and control to ensure
the proper maintenance of the drying unit.

The service section of this manual does not contain instruction to extensive renovation of the
machine.

Labotek’s service department is trained to carry out renovation.

NOTE! Only original Labotek spare parts should be employed. Spare parts are available from
Labotek’s service department at any time (see section “Service”).

Labotek makes reservations against damages arisen from not complying with the directives of
this manual or incorrect use of the conveyor.

Labotek’s domestic service department and Labotek’s international service departments are at
your disposal with any additional information to the understanding of this manual.

The manual has been divided into main sections and subsections with an index listing the
main section.

The following symbols give warning of particular danger and/or provide useful information:

 Risk of personal injury. Follow the instructions given to avoid personal injury.

Rev. 04 Mini-Feed 15-30-60 Page 4 of 23

| Special measures should be taken in order to ensure optimal usage, proper running and
simple operation of the drying unit.

2.3 Use
The Mini-Feed is used for automatic conveyance of free-flowing, granule-formed raw
material (min. grain size of 3 mm) with a very limited dust content from bag or container to
machine hopper on the production machine.

Another application of the conveyor - like use which might exceed the purpose described
above – is considered as a non compliance with requirements. Labotek takes reservation for
damages arising as a consequence of such an application. In such case the operator carries the
risk alone.

For an appropriate use of the conveyor the prescribed demands in the manual must be kept in
order to comply with the conditions for maintenance and service.

The minor outer dimension and the low building height make the Mini-Feed suitable for
mounting on all minor and medium sized production units. Especially where weight and size
of the conveyor is of crucial importance.

2.4 Limitations
The Mini-Feed is equipped with a one-phased motor with a limited lifetime. Therefore, it is
recommended that you only use the Mini-Feed for smaller capacities, and short transport
distances. (See “Capacity”).

The device must not be used for any other purpose than stated. The device cannot be used for
materials in powder form nor in liquid form. The temperature on the conveyed material must
not exceed the maximum permitted surrounding temperature of the device.

The device must be operated by a qualified operator, and in accordance with correct
procedures, only.

The device cannot be used with control separated from conveying hopper.

The device must not be used in areas where explosion might occur.

2.5 Safety and Regulations

The owner and/or the personal who is responsible for connection and initial operation of the
device, must ensure that the installation of the device is in accordance with the suggested
demands in this manual, and that it fulfils the demands of the local authorities.

Operation of the device must only be made of a qualified operator and the control shall be in
accordance with the procedures described in this manual.

Service must be made by an authorised service engineer, and shall be made in accordance
with the guidelines and instructions stated in the service and maintenance manual of this
product.
Rev. 04 Mini-Feed 15-30-60 Page 5 of 23

If the device is operated by an unauthorized or non qualified personnel, and this leads to
damages – or if the owner let 3rd person operate the device on his behalf - all demands against
Labotek A/S, which might have been included in the product warranty will be considered as
cancelled and invacover. Any commitment or claim after consequence damages likewise
ceases.

The right to carry out changes in the construction of the device is reserved Labotek - or a
representative selected by Labotek. This limit without Labotek undertaking any modification
obligation nor for equipment already delivered. Changes do not demand the owner’s nor the
operator’s consent.

In general this applies for:

 Damages caused by non-compliance of the regulations in the manual - or as a

consequence of an inappropriate use of Labotek’s conveyor - is outside Labotek’s
liability.

The content in this manual is based on our knowledge on the time of the development of the
product, and its purpose is to switch important information which is a requirement to ensure
working conditions with - and by the conveyor. The manual is directed first and foremost to
employees in connection with the use and service of the conveyor. The manual does not give
a further and specific description of the behaviour of the product - or its different areas of
application. The manual is neither a working guidance for use by larger repairs on the
machine.

2.6 Construction
The device is constructed by stainless steel to ensure a long lifetime and minimize cleaning.

2.7 Standards, Directives, Instruction, etc. used

We refer to accordance agreement attached

2.8 Operating Principles

The device can handle 3 (three) different operation principles:

1. Ordinary conveyance

2. Discharge of grinder

As an option the device can be equipped with clean suction valve, compressed air, return
blowing of filter, extern alarm lamp and wireless remote control. (Please see chapter 5.0
Auxiliary equipment).

2.8.1 Operating Principles in General

1. Mini-Feed is controlled by the position of the button flap – open or closed.
At open position the Mini-Feed will wait till the material condition under the device
declines, and the button flap tilts back to closed position.

2. At closed position of the button flap the Mini-Feed will drive a new transport cycle
including filter cleaning.
Rev. 04 Mini-Feed 15-30-60 Page 6 of 23

3. Mini-Feed has a transport alarm built in. The control detects if the material is feed and the
device can handle 3 (three) transport cycles immediately after each other without having
material input. In case the device goes into transport alarm condition (red light flashes) it
will wait for 5-10 min. (optional) before a new transport cycle is tried.

4. Mini-Feed is equipped with a folding filter which by help of vacuum is sucked up under
the motor house. The filter falls down and is cleaned when the vacuum disappears.

5. The button flap mounted with a magnet for position marking is weight-loaded and is
Flexible suspended to hopper outlet. This implies that adjustment of the button flap is not
necessary.

For further description of the operation programs please see chapter 4.2: Setting into
operation and programming.
