The effect of blended learning to the Grade 12

Students at Southern Isabela Academy Inc.

S.Y 2020-2021

CHAPTER I: THE PROBLEM AND ITS

BACKGROUND

Introduction

Blended (or hybrid) learning is a way through which instructors may

use various forms of delivery to enhance their students' learning (Ali al
Musawi). The blended learning includes “Course that blends online and
face-to-face delivery. Substantial proportion of the content is delivered
online, typically uses online discussions, and typically has a reduced number
of face-to-face meetings” (Allen and Seaman 2010)

Teachers and learners had a big adjustment throughout this school

year because of the pandemic that occurred that turned the traditional type of
learning into a blended learning including the use of internet/online learning
and self-learning modules (SLM).

Blended learning has become an umbrella term that describes the use
of technology in education such as mobile phones, laptops, television and
etc. that is used on conducting and entering online learning and producing
self-learning modules that is distributed among learners.
The synchronous conceptualization is underlined by a clear definition,
specifically used to describe teaching and learning that occur in real-time
and include both campus and online learners (Bower et al. 2015)

The key difference, according to Garrison and Kanuka, is that teachers

cannot just repackage old material and throw it online. Instead, teachers
must rethink how to deliver and receive content in order to encourage
students to think more creatively and more critically. Instead of a classroom
that is taught purely by a face-to-face teacher or purely in an online setting,
blended learning combines’ online content with face-to face instruction and
guidance. The intention is to allow students to get help from the expert, the
teacher, while working on applying the concepts that they are learning via
online apps and educational websites.
