in the Cultural Center of the
Philippines Complex in Pasay
City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
ØThe facility has been the host
of numerous local and foreign
conventions, meetings, fairs,
and social events.

acquire a suitable area for that purpose, and organize a corporation to manage a conference center. Thus, the PICC was organized under the Corporation Code

tertiary referral hospital that also
offers voluntary blood services.
Located in Quezon City, the 2-

three buildings (Main, Annex and The National Kidney and Transplant Institute
Dialysis Center) connected to each

 During Corazon Aquino's State of the Nation Address in 1990, she said that science and technology development shall be one of the top three priorities of the

Plan or STMP
ØOn August 8, 1988, Corazon Aquino created
the Presidential Task Force for Science and
Technology which came up with the first
Science and Technology Master Plan or STMP.
ØThe goal of STMP was for the Philippines to
achieve newly industrialized country status by
the year 2000.
In the 90's, DOST's overall mission is embodied in the 1990-2000 Science and Technology Master Plan (STMP) that shows the direction and desired goals of Philippine S&T for

form a stronger bond between public
research to help jump-start the progress in
the area of Philippine Research and

Free Public Secondary Education Act of
1988
ØR.A. 6655 or the Free Public Secondary
Education Act of 1988 opened doors to free
education up to the secondary level,
implemented in the education system together
with this was the “Science for the Masses Program”
which aimed at scientific and technological
literacy among Filipinos.

Ø At 1998, the Philippines was estimated to have
around 3,000 competent scientists and engineers.
ØThe increase of scientists would be the result of
the two newly built Philippine Science High

ØThe government provided 3,500 scholarships for
students who were taking up professions related to

ØThe award was published in order to give incentives
and rewards for people who have been influential in
the field of S&T.
Ø National Program for Gifted Filipino Children in
Science and Technology and enactment of a law
creating a nationwide system of high schools
specializing in the field of science and engineering.
