TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR TEN (10) PORTABLE DIGITAL

DENSITY METERS

1. General
1.1 This specification covers the supply, testing, training of users and commissioning of ten digital
density meters.

1.2 The digital density meters shall be capable of carrying out density, relative density and API
gravity of petroleum distillates and viscous oils according to test method ASTM D 7777.

1.3 The digital density meters must be able to measure alcohol and H2SO4 concentration as well.

1.4 The digital density meters shall have consumables for a year and the supplier shall provide
CRM to be used during commissioning.

1.5 The digital density meters supplier shall provide evidence that they can offer after sales support
promptly as and when required.

2. Specifications

2.1 Capable, once calibrated, of determining density with an accuracy of +/-1kg/m3, fitted with a
temperature sensing device capable of measuring temperatures to +/-0.50C , a pump mechanism
for filling and emptying the U-tube and digital display of the results.
2.2 Should have inbuilt software for the calculation of density at 150C and 200C from the observed
density at test temperature and a mechanism for adjusting the meter during calibration.
2.3 The meter should also have memory for storing results or facility for connecting the meter to
either a printer or a computer or both.
2.4 The inbuilt software shall have been type tested to ensure that its firm software duplicates the
Petroleum Measurement Tables over the working temperatures and density ranges of the test
method.
2.5 The meter should be usable in an environment where there is risk of fire.
2.6 The meter shall be capable of converting the measured density and temperature into:
Density at 150C/density at 600F,
Relative density 150C/150C/Relative density 600F/600F,
API Gravity 150C/API Gravity 600F, according to Guide D1298. The instrument shall be
capable of meeting the precision requirements described in this test method.

2.7 The meter should have a source of low-pressure air for the purpose of drying the tube, an
aquarium air pump fitted with a tube filled with a desiccant is suitable.

2.9 Glass or Plastic syringe, approximately 10ml capacity with a Luer fitting.

3. Additional Information

1.1 The tender submission shall have sufficient detail to show compliance to the
specifications and shall include a full brochure of the digital density meter.

1.2 All documentation shall be written in good, simple and concise English using accepted
technical terms, symbols and nomenclatures.
