Course Description

Course Objectives

OBJ1 Introduce the meaning of thermal equilibrium of a system and its relation with the muaximum number of accessible state to the system.

OBJ2 Introduce Boltzmann’s factor from the intropy and the maximum number of state accessible to the system.

OBJ3 Develop the concept partition function.

OBJ4 Use of quantum statistics and the partition function to extract thermal properties of various thermodynamic systems.

OBJ5 Use of quantum statistics to simple harmonic oscillator and extend this result to solid material, photons and phonons statistics.

OBJ6 Apply statistical mechanics to Fermionic and Bosonic particles.
