1. Discuss the government public health effort to address STIs as a health concern. As
a nursing student, how can you replicate this to a school-based program? (15 points)
Addressing the Sexually transmitted diseases’ concern, the government made programs
and/or policies that involve activities that are to give away protection for STI’s. They also made
activities like seminars in order to educate those susceptible, affected, and how to recover from
it. They also implemented screening and programs that are free of charge to screen individuals
affected by STI’s. We, nursing students, are going to be able to replicate this into a school
program by following a nursing responsibility to educate. As we are only students and our
capabilities are limited, we can contribute in the health effort of addressing STI’s health concern
by educating the masses by multiple means. We can conduct seminars, give out information
sheets and in a school set-up where “heating” adolescents proliferate, we can implement a safety
policy like giving away condoms and showing the importance of abstinence.

2. Discuss the relationship of substance abuse to TB disease. After discussing your

thoughts, make a 'SLOGAN' as a health education/campaign message related to
your answer. (15 points)

The substance abuse involves the overuse of tobacco cigarettes which in turn, builds up
nicotine inside the body. Nicotine is a chemical that acts as an addictive agent to the smokers
which encourages them to smoke more. From the normal use of it up to being an acute smoker
and develops to be a chronic smoker, the chronic smoker huffs and puffs until the affected organ,
the lungs, becomes dysfunctional. Once the lungs’ function deteriorates and opportunistic
bacterial infection occurs, tuberculosis is on its way to flatline the patient in a progressive way.

SLOGAN: “SMOKING KILLS YOU SLOWLY, TUBERCOLOSIS JUST ACCELERATES IT,

DON’T SMOKE, DON’T CHOKE”
