Event- The first book on home economics was Mrs. Welch's Cookbook, that
published in 1884.

ACTIVITY 2

What is the importance of home economics in the lives of the people and the
community?

- Not only does home economics teach students about cooking and safety but it
also builds responsibility. It teaches teens to use the techniques they learned in
class in their home life. When teens learn how to take care of their household and
themselves, it helps them to become more responsible at home.

What are the major changes in the community brought about by home
Economics?

- These changes included exponential knowledge growth, the bustling economy


during and after World War II, better public education that prepared more people
for higher education, expanding public support for higher education, increasing
government support of research, and developing specialized accreditation.
