Household waste food packaging: How can this problem be solved?

Modernization comes with the curse and boom, packaging is one of the
inventions that help in transporting and storing products. In most countries,
household waste is related to packaging material and is increasing rapidly every
year. There are several reasons why this is happening and steps are needed to fix
this global problem. Waste generation has increased tremendously worldwide in
recent decades and there are no signs of abating. By 2050. (Tiseo, 2022). This
Essay will look into the problem of increasing household waste food packaging, to
reduce the problem the solutions will use alternative ways, restriction of
industrial materials and raising awareness.

To begin with, the main reasons behind issue is that the number of world
population is increased over the period. In addition, the lifestyle of people
developed with modern civilization. people rely on prepared and packaged foods
because they are more involved in other tasks and activities such as work, the
internet and social media. They prefer to eat cooked/packaged foods rather than
preparing them at home. For this reason, household waste is constantly
increasing and consists mainly of packaging, plastic bags and food packaging.
Household consumption levels have increased during the pandemic of Covid-19
(Voronova, 2o21). The plastic bags are used to transport food and other things or
the containers are used to store food on a regular basis. According to the latest
World Bank report, global waste generation is expected to grow to 3.4 billion
tonnes annually by 2050. (Did) .Furthermore impulsive buying behaviors and
wasting too much are increasing this problem.
Firstly the one effective way to reduce this problem can be use alternative ways
like using jute bags instead of polythene bags. Jute bags are 100% biodegradable,
they can be easily recycled and eco- friendly. (Jaiswal, March 16, 2022). The more
people recycle, the less garbage winds up in our landfills and incineration plants.
By reusing aluminum, paper, glass, plastics, and other materials, it can save
production and energy costs, and reduce the negative impacts. Recycling reduces
the need to grow, harvest or extract new raw materials from the Earth. That in

turn lessens the harmful disruption and damage being done to the natural world:
fewer forests cut down, rivers diverted, wild animals harmed or displaced, and
less pollution of water, soil and air. According to the Daily Star, by 2030 the
BGMEA hopes to use recyclable materials in 50% of its products. (star, 2022).But
also people must overcome impulsive buying behavior by Shopping with a plan in
mind.
Secondly, restrictions for industrial materials such as reduction plastic materials
and decrease three layers of packaging system can be very efficient way to solve
this problem. People's hectic schedules and busy schedules are the main causes of
household waste. As a result, they frequently order meals from restaurants,
which typically comes in packaging that adds to the amount of trash in the home.
Additionally, a lot of businesses wrap their items in two to three layers of
packaging that adds to the rubbish by utilizing plastic bags and other materials.
But after use all this this package become trash and it impacts the environment
very inefficiently. (Molina-Besch, 2019). Several new diseases occur when people
accidentally swallow microplastics. Phytoplankton cannot photosynthesize in
water bodies where plastic waste is present. So, industry must improve waste
management system and reduce plastic source. Plastic Pollution, Waste
Management Issues and Circular Economy Opportunities In rural area can be
sustainable to achieve goal (Rada).
Thirdly by raising awareness the problem can be solved. An effective way to
improve attitudes towards waste reuse and recycling is to integrate waste
management education into school curriculum and particularly teaching children
about the causes and consequences of waste disposal and highlighting the
importance of waste prevention, reuse and recycling. According to a Case Study
of a University in Malaysia, environmental awareness and education are the key
points to reduce this problem, (Asmawati Desa, 2012). Volunteer at a nearby
organization that has recycling projects. Invite others to volunteer as well.
Organize neighborhood trips to the recycling center. For rising awareness people
can arrange different kind of seminar and workshop to convince other. Some
small decisions can make small changes that are eco-friendly and will have a
lasting effect on the environment (conservancy, 2022).

In a conclusion household waste food packaging is a serious global problem which
is increasing day bay day. To solve this problem government should take
alternative ways and aware people. Well-designed packaging can help reduce
food loss and waste, and therefore help reduce the negative environmental and
economic impact of the production and distribution of inedible or inedible food
widely observed. People are responsible for significantly large household waste
because their awareness and lifestyles depend on the tendency of advertising so
it must be stopped.
