ASSIGNMENT #2

What service-related experiences have you had

recently? Do you believe that these experiences
will help you become a better person and
contribute to the community in some
meaningful ways?

The Cotabato earthquakes of 2019 were a string of quakes that

struck the Philippine province of Cotabato in October of that year.
Three of these earthquakes had moment magnitudes greater than
6.0 and Mercalli intensities of VIII. Since it was my first time
experiencing such a catastrophe, I wasn't deterred from assisting
individuals who were in need. Our school's student council enabled
us to assist the victims; our initial aid to them consisted of
gathering secondhand clothing and packaging relief supplies.
Numerous individuals were injured by the earthquake, one of the
city's hospitals was damaged, and many patients needed to be
evacuated.

Looking back, I didn't realize how significant my contributions were.

I simply felt that those people needed my help at the moment. I came
to the realization that helping others doesn't have to be
compensated in a world where many people have self interest in
doing so. Even a modest act of kindness is a huge blessing for the
person.

Life is full of surprises, and it is up to us to determine how to handle

them. Either being able to help or being the one who receives help, in
my opinion, makes us better people. Because I think tiny deeds speak
louder than big ones, making a contribution to our community
doesn't have to be extravagant.
