OBLIGATION (= kewajiban , keharusan)

Expressions to ask for obligation and necessity :

 What should we do ?
 What should we do to _ verb 1 ?
 What do/does + S + have to do ?
 Do/Does + S + have/need to _verb 1 ?
 How should + S + _verb 1 ?
 Should we _ verb 1 ?

Expressions to state for obligation and necessity :

o We should _verb 1.
o We should be _verb-ing.
o We should have _verb-3.
o We must _verb 1.
o We have to _verb 1.

PENGGUNAAN must, have to,

must + verb 1 = harus, wajib, yang berkaitan dengan peraturan, hukum, agama, norma.
 All students must obey the school regulation.
 Tony must submit that book back to the library.

have to + verb 1 = harus, untuk keperluan pribadi atau kelompok, tidak resmi, sehari-hari.
 I have to take the dry clothes before it rains.
 She has to meet me to talk about the plan.

should +V1, should be + V-ing, should have +Verb 3.

should + verb 1 = seharusnya (= sebaiknya), bersifat saran, utk waktu future/ yg akan datang,
jadi belum terjadi, saran tsb dilaksanakan atau tidak, bukan masalah.
(future obligation/ yg akan datang)

 You should save your money.

 Mother should have medical check up.

should be + Verb-ing = yg seharusnya/sebaiknya dilakukan pada saat kamu sedang berbicara, detik ini juga
(present obligation/progressive action/ sekarang, pada saat berbicara)

 You should be doing your homework now.

 I shoud be staying at home at the moment.

Should have + verb 3/been = sesuatu yg seharusnya sudah kamu laksanakan pada waktu
lampau, tetapi tidak kamu lakukan/ kamu tidak berbuat untuk hal tsb.
(past obligation/ lampau)

 I should have been there to accompany her ( =But I was not there).
 You should have joined the English debate contest. ( but you didn’t join)
