The Simple Present Tense
Subject + verb1 + object

The simple present tense tells about routine

Example
I drink coffee every morning.
I work as a chairman.

This tense also expresses general truths or


facts that are timeless.
Example

The sun rises n the east .


The earth rotates on its axis.
The Present Progressive
Subject + is/am/are + verb1 + object

used for an action going on at the time of speaking

example

She is singing(now).
The boys are playing hockey.
The Present Perfect

Subject + has/have + verb3 + object

The present perfect is used to talk about an


event that began in the past and continues up
to the present.

example

He has just gone out.


Amma has visited france four times
Present Perfect Progressive
Subject + has/have + been + verb1 + ing + object

This tense is used to describe the duration


of an action that began in the past and
continues into the present.

example

He has been playing tennis for 20 years.


He has been sleeping for five hours.
The Simple Past
Subject + verb2 + object

It tells us about any finished action in the past

example

I wrote a letter .
I finished my homework.
The Past Progressive
Subject + was/were + verb1 + ing + object

The past progressive is used to talk about an


activity that was in progress at a specific point
of time in the past.
example

It was raining when she left for school.


The Past Perfect
Subject + had + verb3 + object

This tense describes completed events that


took place in the past before another past
event.

example

I had written the letter before he arrived.


Past Perfect Progressive
Subject + had + been + verb1 + ing + object

it talks about two continuous action in the past before other


finished action

example

She had been waiting for all day when the doctor finally arrived.
The Future
Subject + will + verb1 + object
It talk about things that we can not control . It expresses the future s fact
example
It will be Diwali in a week.
We will know our exam results in may.

The Future Progressive

This tense is used to describe an event or

progressive)

I can not come tomorrow , I will be working until late .


The Future Perfect
This tense is used to describe an event or
action that will be completed before another
event or time in the future.
Subject + will have + verb3 + object

example

By march I will have saved 15000 rs.


Future Perfect Progressive
Subject + will have been + verb1 + ing + object

This tense describes an action that has been


in progress for a duration of time before
another event or time in the future.

example

By march I will have been saving money for 8 months.
