The Entrepreneurial Mind

1. What was the speaker’s project/idea?

The speaker’s project is called “Bored and Brilliant”. Bored and Brilliant is a

project consist of challenges for people to lessen their usage of their phones. The

project seeks to encourage them to disconnect from technology and spend more

time on developing creativity.

2. How did the speaker come up with the idea?

The speaker came up with the idea through her observation that most of the

people spend most of their time on their phones, scrolling through social media

or doing work. She brainstormed, asked some experts, and realized that the

boredom or the spacing out of people could lead to brilliant ideas that you

couldn’t have imagined when you’re on your phone.

3. Was her project informative? List down all the information you learned

from her TED Talk.

Yes, her project was really great in informing people about how technology is

transforming humanity. I have discovered that boredom has a fascinating side.

You’ll get to do things that you haven’t done before, makes your mind to think

creatively, and allows you to be more productive.

4. How frequently do you use your phone? Do you see yourself doing the

speaker’s challenge? Why?

I used my phone most of the time because almost all of the tasks or work that I

have to finish is in my phone. Also, I see myself doing the speaker’s challenge

since I’ve been wanting to disconnect from my phone for a little while but I just

don’t know how and when to start. It seems so difficult to let go of my phone, so I

want to do something to control or minimize it.

5. What are the possible implications of multitasking? Do we finish more,

or do we complete fewer tasks than focusing on one (1) task at a time?

Multitasking doesn’t help with finishing all the tasks effectively. Studies shows

that our brain can only handle one thing, so juggling through several tasks at a

time will just limit your productivity. We tend to complete fewer tasks since it is

distracting and the brain are unable to process everything all at once.

6. According to the search engineer at Google, why is the technology built

to trigger social media users an itchy feeling if they are not with their

phones?

The reason why the users feel this itchiness when they are on their phones is

because it is built or designed to get their fullest attention. One of them even said
that one of their biggest competitors when it comes to the attention of the people

is sleep. There’s a lot of things where users can spend their attention and time,

but technology is good at its job which makes it hard for people to stop.
