1. What is Dropbox background?

Dropbox is a file hosting service operated by the American company Dropbox, Inc

Dropbox brings files together in one central place by creating a special folder on the user's
computer, The contents of these folders are synchronized to Dropbox's servers and to other
computers and devices where the user has installed Dropbox, keeping the same files up to
date on all devices. Dropbox is a cloud storage service that lets you save files online and sync
them to your devices. You can use Dropbox links to share files and folders with other people
without sending large attachments. Dropbox offers a free plan that includes 2 GB of storage.
You can pay to increase that to as much as 3 TB with a subscription.

The Key Features of Dropbox : Free Storage ,Encryption , Extend storage

2. Which cloud provider and cloud services are used in application?

Dropbox is provided by AWS Cloud provider.
Dropbox originally used AWS but moved off it (for multiple reasons) to their own in-
house infrastructure. Years ago, we called Dropbox a “Magic Pocket” because it was
designed to keep all your files in one convenient place. Dropbox has evolved from that
simple beginning to become one of the most powerful and ubiquitous collaboration
platforms in the world. And when our scale required building our own dedicated storage
infrastructure, we named the project “Magic Pocket.” Two and a half years later, we’re
excited to announce that we’re now storing and serving over 90% of our users’ data on
our custom-built infrastructure.

Cloud services used by Dropbox :

Amazon Web Services (AWS): The AWS business model is to make every service a
generic, standalone, scalable business. Providing a custom solution for one customer
doesn't scale well.
Any AWS user can request dedicated instances to eliminate noise from other customers
on shared infrastructure. Dedicated instances are also common for HIPPA compliance.
Dropbox likely does that. The network can be isolated with VPCs, but underneath the
network is shared at level that customers cannot see.
AWS would have to provision extra capacity to support Dropbox, but that would be no
different than their regular planning and provisioning process. Dropbox also would likely
get special pricing for massive volume, but the infrastructure would be the same.
Dropbox also likely gets early access to all the AWS services and extra input into new
product development. But AWS consistently makes all their internal infrastructure
available to everyone as a service. That is how AWS started after all.

3. Technical Description: Using Dropbox for file storage is an example of an IaaS. You
can access, alter, and data as you please, while Dropbox provides the servers to host it.
Almost every website you visit is hosted through the cloud, thanks to IaaS models.
Dropbox is a personal cloud storage service (sometimes referred to as an online backup
service) that is frequently used for file sharing and collaboration. The Dropbox
application is available for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux desktop operating systems.

 To share a file, first we need to do login to drobox account and upload a file into the
folder and then we can generate a URL from it the Dropbox website and share the
URL with others to whom we want to share the files.
