Dear Professor Dongsoo Han, I am writing this letter to express my motivation for applying for a researcher position in your “Intelligent Service Integration Lab – ISI Lab” from the 2022 spring semester. Since my graduation in 2020, I have been seeking a suitable place to fulfill my desire to do some interesting projects about advanced computing systems. Then thanks to the introduction of Mr. Anh Van Vu, I have found out that your laboratory’s research direction about indoor localization was a perfect suit for my intention. I believe that working with your current projects would be such an opportunity for me to approach the knowledge domain about machine learning, deep learning, and distributed computing, which are the most important fields in the 4.0 Industrial Evolution. These topics always arouse interest in me because of the questions I’ve been asking myself from the first day I saw a robot dancing in university: how intelligent an electronic device could be and how we could use it to elevate the life quality of our species. In my imagination, there will be one day when humans can leave all the hard-working jobs to robots, only to focus on greater missions like discovering the deep universe or finding the true nature of every existed thing. That’s a little to say for the far future, but at the moment, my country - Vietnam - is still making an effort to catch up with the technological advancement of developed countries like Korea. For that reason, my ultimate goal is to go abroad and learn from the bests so I could make a significant contribution to the development of science and technology when I return. Besides, I have been working in an R&D company for half a year, thus I totally understand the difficulty of turning concepts, theories, and mathematical models into real devices that can support humans in everyday life. From what I know, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology is a special university with a bond connection between industrial companies and laboratories, which generates many valuable basic and applied research droving the industrialization of Korea. I am really looking forward to taking part in such realistic and meaningful projects from your laboratory, such as smart museum adopting indoor localization or implementing a GPS system inside buildings. With a background as an engineer specialized in Instrumentation and Industrial Informatics, I can be really helpful in implementing projects on embedded, wireless, and IoT devices. My experience involves working with MCU or FPGA-based hardware, and low-level drivers or application programming on both bare-metal or os-based systems. I’m also the kind of person who honors his commitments, which means for every assigned task, I always try to make sure they were progressed and finished according to plan and with the highest quality possible. Another advantage of mine is the ability to acquire and adapt quickly to new knowledge or new environment, which enabled me to perform well not only in the academic study and research at schools but also in the high-pressure work at companies. I have a strong belief that your laboratory and KAIST is an appropriate place for me to gain knowledge, develop abilities, and ways of thinking to succeed in the rapid change of the technological world. I believe my qualification and your needs would be an excellent fit. I am pleased to provide any further information or documents if required. I look forward to your positive response. Thank you for your time and consideration. Yours faithfully, NGUYEN Thanh Minh
