FUEL STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION PLAN

FUEL STORAGE

1.) Fuel must be kept in securely capped metal containers or steel drums.
2.) Content must be clearly marked on containers or drums such as "DIESEL", "GASOLINE”,"OIL"
etc.
3.) If fuel is in fiber glass bulk container, proper fire protection measures have to be provided and
checked.
4.) Gasoline and other volatile liquids with flash point below 320C (900F) should be kept in strong
metal containers.
5.) These containers should be located in a well-ventilated area.
6.) Fuel storage area must be located at least 15 meter (50 feet) away from the nearest building.
7.) Warning signs "Danger; Fuel Storage Area", "No Smoking" etc must be posted.
8.) No other material should be stored in the fuel storage area.
9.) Fuel storage area should be clean and free of debris.
10.) Proper grounding and bonding techniques shall be provided and used; i.e electrically ground all
dispensing drums to ground, and bond the receiver to the drum.
11.) Only approved cables and clamps should be used to bond drums and receiving containers.
12.) Fuel storage area should have an adequate berm to contain the fuel.
13.) Fuel spillage or leakage should be minimized.
14.) Adequate and proper fire extinguisher should be present at least 7.5 meters away from the fuel
container.
15.) Fire extinguisher training should be done for employees.
16.) Open fires are strictly prohibited in the area.
17.) Emergency telephone numbers have to be posted near fuel storage area.

FUEL TRANSPORTATION

1.) Transportation must always be in (closed) metal containers with sealed covers or caps.
2.) Plastic containers are strictly prohibited.
3.) Containers, vehicles and equipment shall be bonded to the bulk tank or vehicle during fuel transfer
operation.
4.) Engine must be shut off and driver must be out of the vehicle or equipment.
5.) During fuel transfer operation, there should be no flames within 15 meter (50 feet) of the operation.
6.) Fuel nozzle should be provided for filling vehicles, containers and equipment.
7.) Use of cell phone is prohibited during fuel transfer.
