SAFE WORK METHOD FOR GAS CUTTING ACTIVITY

1) All gas cylinders shall be kept upright and cylinders shall not strike each
other at the time of transport. Proper loading of cylinders shall be ensured.
2) Cylinders are to be tied with chains during transportation.
3) Tyre of cylinder trolley shall be maintained in a good condition.
4) Cylinder shall never be rolled on ground; it has to be carried by cylinder
trolley only.
5) Dropping of cylinders shall be avoided strictly while unloading.
6) All gas cylinders must have the valve cap protection to prevent any kind of
damage to cylinder valve.
7) All joints are checked with soap solution for leakage before starting the
activity.
8) Cylinders are to be transported in trolleys.
9) All joints are to be made of proper clamps.
10)Hose pipe to be inspected of cuts before starting daily activity.
11)Flash back arrestors are to be provided at both cylinder & torch end.
12)Gas hose pipe shall not run with any kind of electrical cable or welding cable.
13)Hose pipe shall be routed in such a way that it shall be protected from sharp
edges and vehicle movement.
14)Proper access to approach the work place & working platform.
15)Fall protection arrangements to be provided.
16)Required PPEs (Safety harness, life line & fall arresters, safety goggles, hand
gloves etc.).
17)Combustible materials must be removed from the area below gas cutting
activity.
18)Spatters should be arrested by providing GI Sheet areas below barricaded.
19)Fire extinguishers to be provided.
20)Helper should be present near gas cylinder.
21)Proper ventilation arrangement is to be done in confined space.
22)Proper house keeping to be ensured.

23)Exhaust fan to be ensured.

24)Flammability checks are to be done before issuing permit to work.
25)Only striking lighter shall be used to light the torch.
26)Torch shall be checked for any kind of damage prior to start of the job.
27)All flammable materials shall be removed from the near by area of gas
cutting.
28)All fire preventive measures shall be taken during gas cutting (fire
extinguisher, fire bucket, and stand by fire watch. Etc). Fire extinguisher is to
be placed close to the gas cutting set.
29)Pressure gauges shall be provided and maintained.
30)Periodic monitoring of oxygen level in confined space.
31)Safety induction training before deployment should be ensured.
32)Proper supervision at all time during work should be ensured.
33)Motivational programs (Rewards) & penalty systems should be ensured.
34)Provision of drinking water should be ensured.
35)Provision of first aid kit should be ensured.
