If a body travels in a straight line and covers an equal amount of distance in an equal interval of
time, then it is said to have uniform motion. In simple words, a body is said to have uniform a
For example; If the speed of a car is 10 m/s, it means that the car covers 10 meters in one
second.
The equation for uniform motion in a straight line is
d= v. t
d = displacement
v = velocity
t = time
or
d = v.t
d = distance
v = speed
t = time
Both of them are correct
The difference between displacement and distance:
Displacement is vector quantity because it has direction
Distance is scalar quantity because no direction
Example :
A car moves with speed of 20m/s, in 5 seconds
Find distance travelled
Answer
v= 20 m/s
t = 5 second
d = 20 X 5
d = 100 m
Area 1 = ( 5 X 20 ) /2 = 50 m
Area 2 = 20 X 10 = 200 m
Area 3 = ( 20 X 15 ) / 2 = 150 m
So total area = 50 m + 200 m + 150 m = 400 m
9. A cat initially is at distance of 10 m from the house , then it run far away with constant speed until 34
m from the house in 6 seconds. Find the speed of the cat
10. A motorcycle initially at distance of 30 m from a boy, then a motorcycle has constant speed 4 m/s
near to the boy. Where is the position of the motorcycle after 6 seconds ?
11. Nathan and Samuel initially stand in the same place. Nathan walks with speed 3 m /s, 4 seconds later
Samuel walks passing over Nathan with speed 5m /s
a. How long does Nathan passing over by Samuel?
b. How far the distance travelled by them when Nathan pass over ?
12. Motor cyclist Anton and Bobby which are separated by distance of 230 m in opposite direction, and
they approach each other. Anton has speed of 20 m/s, and Bobby has speed of 10 m/s . Bobby moves
4 seconds after Anton moves.
How far the distance travelled by Anton and Bobby when they meet ?
