REPORTING
COVER
This is the front for the project report and contains the following information in this order:
i. Project title (not more than twenty-three (23) words).
ii. Full name of the student. Surname is written first, followed by a comma and the other
names.
iii. Registration number
iv. Department
v. Faculty
vi. Institution
vii. Month and year of completion of project
Character type: capital letters. In writing non-English biological and botanical names, the
binomial nomenclature format should be adopted, and the names must be italicized.
Font type: Times New Roman
Font size: 14 points
Alignment: Centre (top margin and bottom margin must be equal)
Colour: Green
Paper size: A4 paper

ABSTRACT
Abstract should summarize the research work, method(s), result(s) implications and
conclusion. It should not be more than two hundred and fifty words (250) words.
No paragraphing and indentation; single line spacing (1.0)

TABLE OF CONTENTS
A research report should be clearly sign-posted by main headings and appropriate sub-
headings. The table of contents provides a guide to the structure, coverage and pagination
of the report. Every heading or sub-heading in the table of content must appear in the text.
It is not necessary that every sub-heading in the text appear in the table of contents.
Common system of headings and style of listing include capitalization, bolding of letters,
indentation and using other resources of the computer/printer system.

LIST OF FIGURES

Figures attract attention and help the writer to present information quickly, clearly and
accurately. Figures must be specifically mentioned first in the text before they are presented.
They are presented with respect to the chapter where they appeared. Thus, Fig. 2.1, Fig. 3.2,
Fig. 4.3 etc. the abbreviation “Fig” is generally acceptable and used for any figure or
illustration in the form of a figure, diagram, a graph, and picture etc. figures number and title
should be generally written below the figure is placed close to the point where it was first
mentioned. Any figure not cited and explained in the text should not appear in the report. In
the list of figures, the fig number, title and page number should be given.

LIST OF TABLES
A table is a representation of statistical information or data. The information contained in the
table is usually arranged in columns and rows. It is better to number the table serially with
respect to the chapters where they appear. For example, in chapter four, table 4.1, table 4.2 and
table 4.3 etc. table captions or titles are written on top of the table. A table should be presented
following the page where it is first mentioned or as close to it as possible. In the list of tables,
the table number, title and page number should be given.

MAIN BODY OF THE PROJECT REPORT


The main body of the research report shall consist of five (5) chapters.
Chapter Title: Capital letters
Font Size: 14 points
Alignments: Centre
Alignment of chapter number and sub- headings: Left
Alignment of figures and tables: Centre

CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION


The introduction shall include clear statement of the problem, the rationale for the project and
its objectives.

CHAPTER TWO: LITERATURE REVIEW


In this chapter, relevant information concerning the subject matter/title is obtained from
literature/previous studies, journal articles, books, internet, etc.

System Analysis and Methodology

CHAPTER FOUR:
System Design and Implementation

CHAPTER FIVE:
Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation

Font type: Times New Roman
Font Size: 12 points
Line Spacing: 1.5
General Alignment: Justify

MATHEMATICAL EQUATIONS
Mathematical equations should be on separate lines and centralized on the page. Important
equations must be numbered and cited in the text.

REFERENCE
All the references cited in the text should appear in the list of references and all references in
the list of references must be cited in the text. References should appear in alphabetical order,
using the style of APA (American Psychological Association) referencing, 7th edition.

Sample format
a. Book source: Author’s surname initials (Year). Title, Edition, Country. Publisher, Pages.
b. Journal/Article: Author`s Surname, Initials. (Year). Title of Article. Journal name,
Volume (Number), Page range. Names of all contributing authors must be listed in the
reference.

APPENDICES
Appendices should be presented as appendix 1, 2, 3, etc.

PAGINATION
Numbering must run consecutively with no missing numbers and the use of such missing
numbers as 10a, 10b, etc is not permitted. Every page in the project report, except the cover
page, is assigned a page number. These page numbers must be centered on page, about 1.6 cm
from the bottom. The preliminary pages are given Roman numerals: title page is page i,
declaration page is ii, certification page is iii, dedication page is iv, acknowledgment page is v,
abstract vi, table of contents vii, list of figures viii, list of tables ix. Beginning from the first
page after the preliminary pages, i.e. the page containing the table of contents, Arabic
numerals should be used in the pagination; it must begin with the number 1.
