SOME COMMON STRUCTURES

1. It takes S.O + time + to V : mất bao lâu để …

It takes me half an hour to get to work by bus.
2. S + spend + time/ money + V-ing: mất bao lâu để …
I spend half an hour travelling to work every day.
3. Too + adj/ adv for S.O to V: quá … nên …. Không thể…
He was running too fast for me to follow.
4. Enough + N + to V: đủ N để …
I do not have enough time to have breakfast, so I usually skip it.
5. Adj/ adv + enough + to V
I arrive home early enough to watch the important match.
6. So + adj/ adv + that S + V: quá … đến nỗi mà ….
I get up so early every day that I can catch the first bus to school.
7. Such + (a/an + adj) + N + that S + V: quá … đến nỗi mà ….
He is such a night owl that he almost never switches the lights off before midnight.
8. Despite the fact that S + V, S + V = although S + V, S + V : dù
Despite the fact that he is old, he can swim quite well.
9. It + be + adj + (for S.O) to V = V-ing + be + adj + for S.O
It is difficult for me to get up early in the morning
= Getting up early in the morning is difficult for me.
10. Because/ as/ since S + V: bởi vì
I am usually late for school because/ as/ since I usually lie in.
11. Đã quen với Be used to/ get used to V-ing: làm quen với
He is used to having a late lunch break
12. There is no point in + ving: --Ving--- thì thật vô ích
There is no point in tidying up the house often since the kids will make a mess immediately after that.
13. A friend of mine = one of my friends
A friend of mine told me the whole story = one of my friends told me the whole story.
14. In order (NOT) to V: để (không)
I leave school early in order not to miss the last bus.
15. S + V so that + S + V: để mà
I leave school early so that I won’t miss the last bus.
16. Find it ADJ + to V
I find it really difficult not to have a lie in on the weekend.
17. V-ing is a good way for S.O to V
