giving examples, the obligations that his duty imposes on himself as a professional
engineer.
E1: Compliance with relevant codes of conduct and ethical principles
Ans:
Codes of conduct and ethical shown the best practices for honesty, integrity and
professionalism. As a civil engineer from Sarawak Energy Berhad, my scope of works was
focus on coordination work with internal & external contractors, preparing tender document,
act as one of the committees for tender evaluation, supervise and decision maker especially
for refurbishment work, work planning and budget preparation. There is a big chance that
corruption may occur or the contractors may bribery staff for them to win the project they
bid. Hence, to compliance with the codes and ethical principles, my company organize the
campaign or course of anti-bribery, corruption and code of ethics yearly and forcing all staff
to participate. The aim is to aware all staff to say NO to bribery and meantime to ensure all
staff able to carry out the work in professional way and according to the code of ethic. In
addition, my company have the policy, procedures and guidelines of code of ethics and
penalize the staff legally once found he or she accept the bribery.

E2: Managing and applying safe systems of work


Ans:
As part of managing and applying safe systems of work, the safety for staff, contractors or
visitors is the most priority care by SEB. With this, SEB restricted outside or visitors to enter
their assets or power plant as they like without proper arrangement and registration process.
Meantime, SEB requested all internal staff and contractors to have relevant competency
certificate or knowledge before carrying any work inside their assets / power plant. To
control for the zero fatality and minimize the work-related lost time injury frequency rate
(LTIFR), work parties must prepare and submit for the job safety analysis (JSA), do hazard
identification, risk assessment and risk control (HIRARC) in advance and apply relevant
PTW from PIC as part of the working system in SEB. Meantime, safety briefing and toolbox
meeting will be conducted before kick-start the work. All work parties must wear appropriate
PPE, stop the work and inform PIC immediately once they notice or realized the hazard
happen surrounding their working area. All work parties must understand the life-saving rules
set by SEB and for those who choose to break the rules, he or she choose not to work with
Sarawak Energy.
