The city of Catbalogan has been known empowering the youth and recognize the youth

capabilities in the development of the community. And with that, the City Population
and Youth Development Office celebrated the Catbalogan Young People’s Day and now
currently as the 16th year of celebrating the young people’s day in commemoration to
the International Youth Day. And to celebrate the Catbalogan Young People’s Day, a
week-long series of activities has been conducted for the youth.
The City Population and Youth Development Office organized a "Youth Wave Parade"
showcasing different organizations in Catbalogan City last August 12, 2022, in line with
the Catbalogan Young People’s Day.
The Youth Wave Parade was conducted in the City Plaza and started at around 8 a.m.
There were approximately 200 people who showed up for the aforementioned event.
Also present were the CLEAU, CPYDO, and the CPYDO volunteers who led the parade.
Followed by 8ID Youth Ministry, Cambalaug, Trese Youth Organization, PYAP, CYDRRM,
Red Cross, Pataw, Mercedes Youth, CCSSCF, Canlapwas, WARAYA, Katig Manarayaw,
Sinekat, Siklesta de Catbalogan who were the participants of the event.

The program began with welcoming the participants and presenting their organization's
cheer. Following the welcome message of Mr. Joed Dadulla from the City Mayor's office
on Mayor Dexter's behalf. He emphasized the significance of youth involvement in
Catbalogan. Sir Ador Hortado, the CPYDO officer in charge, highlighted his support for
the young people. Rejhel Ann Memoracion, newly crowned as the first Mutya han
Samar Youth shared her experience when she was in high school and how she could
relate to the young leaders of Catbalogan.  

The winners of the special awards were announced after they finished their welcome
remarks. SK Canlapwas received the award for the biggest delegation, with 57 youth
leaders. The Katig Manarayaw received the award for the best cheer, which was
decided upon by a unanimous vote. The CYDRRM earned the award for the most
organized organization, while the 8ID youth ministry took home the award for the best
organization uniform and the early bird.

Following the opening salvo is the Youth Fair 2022 showcasing Advocacy Booth of the
various youth-led organizations. Wherein, 8 youth organizations in Catbalogan City
showcased their causes and presented their advocacies through verbal communication
followed by a question and answer portion. The city mayor of Catbalogan, Mr. Dexter
M. Uy, presided the opening of the aforementioned event together with Mr. Michael Ian
Tuazon, SK Federation President, Mr. Jhunlie Escala, the Provincial Youth Development
Officer, and Mr. Ador Hurtado who is currently the OIC of the CPYDO.
For the second day of the week-long celebration, August 13, the celebration of the
Catbalogan Young People’s Day called as #KAUPODKABATAAN: CYPD goes to Upland
Barangay, wherein the CYPD was brought to our communities that are far from the city.
The CPYDO staff and volunteers prepared series of games or simply “Laro ng Lahi”
games to the community of Barangay Palanyogon, Albalate, Cagudalo, and Bangon
which brought joy and excitement to the youth.
On August 14, 2022, in conjunction with Catbalogan Young People's Day, the City
Population and Youth Development Office hosted a # KusogKabataan: The Amazing
Race Bikers Edition showcasing various organizations of bikers in Catbalogan City.
At the City Plaza, The Amazing Race kicked off at around 8 a.m, it started by giving
instructions to the bikers on the guidelines that they need to follow. There was a total
of 48 competitors, 5 members on each team, and one team had just 3 participants due
to a legitimate issue that was rectified by the host after the participants all agreed that
they could participate in the race. There were 10 teams and 10 stations altogether. The
city plaza featured the number 0. Team 1 was the first team to complete the game at
station 0, followed by teams 5, 2, 6, 3, 4, 10, 8, 9, and 7.
Station 1 was located in the PUBLIC TERMINAL, Station 2 in the PUBLIC MARKET,
Station 3 in PIETA PARK, Station 4 in PERSEVERANDA, Station 5 in the PARK ZUMBA
AREA, Station 6 in SAMAR NATIONAL SCHOOL, Station 7 in SAMAR STATE
UNIVERSITY, Station 8 in PAYAO BEACH, Station 9 in BIG BOSS, and Station 10 in
MONTANO. The bikers need to go through different challenges. To advance to the next
station, they must correctly answer a series of riddles from a list that is given to them.
The facilitator must provide them with a puzzle once they complete the station
challenge, which they must then collect and organize by the end of the race. The
Amazing Race bikers' edition winners are revealed after the competition.
Now, for the 4th day was a series of activities as a battle of wits as
#KINAADMANKABATAAN was conducted. For the morning activities, the Panel
Interview for the Ten Outstanding Students of Catbalogan was conducted in Alegro
Hotel as it was led by the Catbalogan City Supreme Student Council Federation. It was
participated by different applicants or the qualifiers from different schools here in
Catbalogan. After the panel interview, it was then followed by the On-the-spot Essay
Writing Competition led by the Manaragat Organization, participants were divided into
two categories namely, the teens category and young adults.
After the morning activities, two activities was done simultaneously in the afternoon, in
Alegro Hotel, the General Information Quiz Bowl took place while the On-the-spot
Mobile Photography Contest was conducted in City Plaza together with the organization
of Cambalaug who facilitated the activity.
Ending the 4th day, facilitators and volunteers are back in City Plaza for the Mayor
Dexter Uy Cup Asian Parliamentary Debate Championship, wherein it was participated
by 4 teams and was facilitated by the CYPD volunteers and also together with the
Executive Assistants of the LGU Catbalogan.
The first motion they fought over was to legalize abortion in the Philippines in this
parliament. Team TYRO represented the opposition, and Empowered Youth (E-Youth)
represented the government. The first motion that they battled out was that this house
would legalize abortion in the Philippines. The government side was the Empowered
Youth (E-Youth), while the opposition side was team TYRO. The winner of the motion
was won by the government side.
The second motion was that this house believes that covid-19 vaccination and booster
shots should be mandatory in Catbalogan City. The governing side were the Merlions,
and the opposition was the three Idiots. The winner of the said motion was the
government side.
The third round was Loser vs. Loser. "The Bataan Nuclear Power Plant should be
reopened" was the motion they fought over. Team TYRO represented the government,
and the opposition were the three idiots. The winner of the said motion was the
government side.
Round 4 was the championship round, with the Empowered Youth (E-Youth) fighting
for the government and the Merlions fighting against them on the motion, "This House
Believes That Same-Sex Unions Should Be Legalized." The opposition side prevailed in
the aforementioned motion. Abdul Mu'izz Shiekrashid from team Empowered Youth won
the award for best debator, and Jessalou Dy from team Merlions won for best speaker.
After the 4 day activities prepared for the youth, the 5th day of the Catbalogan Young
People’s Day serves as the day of #KADUNGGANANKABATAAN Pasidungog: Catbalogan
Young People’s Day Awarding Ceremony. In this day, we award participation and
recognition to all participants during the activities of the week-long celebration of CYPD.
The evening program started with ice breakers and games interacting with the youth
and audience as the program was held in City Plaza and it formally opened through a
prayer and singing of the Philippine National Anthem.
Awarding of participation and to the winners was then followed starting with the
participating organizations during the Youth Wave Parade and Youth Advocacy Fair was
then followed by an intermission number first from the Katig-manarayaw Organization
through a folk dance. After that, it was then followed by the awarding for the winners
and participating teams during the Amazing Race Biker’s Edition and the On-the-spot
Essay Writing Contest.
Another intermission number was given by the winner of the Tingog 2022: Catbalogan
Singing Idol Competition before it proceed to the awarding for the General Information
Quiz Bowl and On-the-spot Mobile Photography Contest. And before proceeding into the
other activities, the Katig-tirok Youth Camp Wrap-up Video was presented to showcase
the youth program the CPYDO has been creating since 2019. Last awarding was given
to the winners of the Ten Outstanding Students of Catbalogan and the Mayor Dexter Uy
Cup Asian Parliamentary Debate Championship.
The week-long celebration ended with a joyful closing ceremony appreciating the
efforts and participation of the youth of Catbalogan. Now on its 16th year, it is a living
proof of how the youth of Catbalogan partakes and how active they are in the
community especially in the city of Catbalogan.
