1. Executive Summary (Abstract)
In this experiment, we use the PlanSwift software for the estimation of excavation quantities of
given drawing plans. First of all, we learn the interference of the software like how to make a job
in it. Then how to insert the required files of plan drawing in the software. Before performing the
task, we set the scale of our drawing and check the dimensions. Then we perform the step of site
preparation in which we calculate the sq. feet area of the plan on which we have to construct the
building. Then we perform the site clearance on the total given area of the plot in sq. feet on
which we have to work. Then we count the trees in the plan and locate them in the drawing.
After that, we work on the foundation plan and calculate the volume of the column’s total
excavation volume. Then we calculate the only column casting volume. Then we find the volume
of lean concert and pad footing of the excavated area. With the help of all these values, we
calculate and fill the BOQ form in an excel sheet.
2. Objective(s)
 Understanding of the PlanSwift Software
 Cost calculation of different activities
3. Scope
In this experiment, we find the excavation volume and areas. Then fill out the form of BOQ with
the help of software values.
4. Relevance to the industry
Simply create assemblies of commonly used materials, waste, and even labor. Then drag those
assemblies onto the takeoff items for instant and accurate estimates of all your costs
5. Software Engaged
 PlanSwift
 Excel
 Pdf viewer
 Microsoft Word
6. Methodology/Procedure
 First of all, we create the job of our work and then insert the pdf drawing in the software
on which we have to work.
 Then we set the scale of our drawing in the software so we can work properly and get the
exact value.

Figure 1 scaling
 Then we find the sq. feet area of the site preparation which is 116.92 sq. feet. Selecting
the option of the area from the top menu bar. First, we have to select the unit and name of
the selected area. Then we move the cursor around the required boundaries on which we
have to perform the site preparation.

Figure 2 site preparation 116.92 sq. feet

 Then we calculate and locate the number of trees in the plan using the option of count
selection from the top menu bar. First, we select it then we assign the name of the thing
we have to count also we can give the shape and color of the selection. Then we just click
on the objects.

Figure 3 counting of trees

 Then we perform the task of site clearance area this is the total work area of the given
plan. We perform the same step as we did in the site preparation step. First, we select the
option of the area from the top bar then we set the unit and give the name of the selection.
Then we just move the cursor to the required boundaries.

Figure 4 site clearance of 229.48 sq. feet

 Then we start work on the foundation plan and find the volume of excavation of the
foundation, the volume of the column, the volume of lean concrete, and the volume of
pad footing. To find this volume first we go to the option of the area from the top bar then
select the option of volume from it then select the units and name of selection
accordingly. Then for each selection, we select a separate selection.

Figure 5 column excavation of 1.2 cu m

Figu
re 6 volume of the total foundation excavation is 70.4 cu m
Figure 7 volume of total lean concrete is 5.4 cu m
Figure 8 The volume of total pad footing is 27.2 cu m
7. Results & Conclusions
Now at the end by using all these above values we filled the BOQ form in excel and by
sample calculation, we find the remaining values like backfill of excavation.
 Volume of excavation = 81.30 m3
 Volume of columns = 1.2 m3
 Pad footing estimation = 27.1 m3
 Lean concrete volume = 5.48 m3
 Surplus excavated material = 36.70 m3
