Overview
Singapore Math is renowned worldwide, however, to stay at the top, it needs constant
energy and challenge- so SINGA MATH has been born. Welcome to SINGA MATH, where
we share the best practices in mathematics learning and where students gauge how good
they are at mathematics.

Countries strong in mathematics consistently use international benchmarks to scale up their

academic value. Singapore's mathematics syllabus, for instance, was developed after
studying the mathematics syllables of many countries across the globe. This is a new
international Singapore Mathematics exam for grades 1 to 12 that has been written by top
Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) teachers. Singa Math is taught in over 70 countries
across the world.

A strong foundation in primary (elementary) mathematics has enabled Singapore students

to achieve top rankings in global benchmarking surveys such as the International
Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the Programme for International Student
Assessment (PISA). These surveys measure how Primary 4 (grade 4) and secondary 2
(grade 8) students understand, apply, and reason about concepts in Mathematics and
Science.

We have partnered with Scholastic Trust Singapore Teachers' Institute (STSTI) to bring you
SINGA MATH. as well as training for teachers on how to use formative and summative
assessment data to diagnose students' misconceptions about mathematics and plan
lessons to correct these misconceptions.

3
Objective

We are a group of passionate math educators that want to help kids and instructors around
the world improve their math skills. The "Singapore method" was created by a group of
teachers in Singapore in the 1980s, who were tasked by the ministry of education with
developing high-quality teaching materials.

They studied at the most recent behavioural science studies and visited schools in other
countries, such as Canada and Japan, to compare the efficiency of various teaching
techniques. The textbooks the group developed were influenced by educational
psychologists such as Jerome Bruner, who proposed that humans learn in three stages:
through real objects, drawings, and symbols. As a result of this approach, Singapore places
a heavy focus on visualising mathematical issues; for example, using coloured blocks to
represent fractions or ratios.

We aspire to introduce the globe to the best of Singapore education. We aim to attain our
Desired Outcomes of Education by teaching our students in Singapore so that they are
future-ready, have a strong sense of national identity, and are prepared to contribute in a
globalised world. We want to bring out the best in our students so that they can live life to the
fullest, contribute to their community, and care for their country. We also want to help our kids
develop their interests so that they can pursue their hobbies and achieve their goals.

Scholastic Trust Singapore Limited (STS) and Young
Achievers Leadership Academy (YALA)

STS is a non-profit foundation that set up the International Junior Honor Society (IJHS) to recognise
outstanding primary to junior college students who have won gold awards in English, mathematics,
science, computational thinking, informatics, digital technologies, arts, music, and cultural
competitions.

Students are exclusively invited by STS and SIMCC to join this society to pursue excellence, and
IJHS provides a suite of services to help them succeed. Once inducted, STS, supported by SIMCC,
will enhance their abilities in leadership, creativity, and character building through the Young
Achievers Leadership Academy (YALA) and community service activities.

The Young Achievers Leadership Academy (YALA) is a 5-day, 4-night leadership and personal
development workshop conducted by Scholastic Trust Singapore Limited (STS).

YALA is an academic motivational camp for primary 4 to junior college 2 (Grades 4 to 12) students
specially designed to cater to top students in their pursuit to reach their highest academic goals, such
as cracking the admission process to the top schools and universities with scholarships.

To get inducted into IJHS, students must have received at least 2 significant awards within the
previous year in our competitions (SASMO, AMO, DOKA, IJMO, SIMOC, DrCT, VANDA, NM HS
DSC, or any one of ICAS English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, or Digital Technologies with High
Distinction*). Students who have received one local gold award and at least an individual silver
award in an international global competition (SIMOC, STEAM AHEAD, and SINGA Global Finals) will
also be inducted.

Starting in 2020, SIMCC will accept International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)
Distinction and above awards in English, mathematics, science, writing, or digital technologies as an
equivalent to a SIMCC International Local Gold Award to satisfy the entry criteria for IJHS. For the
nine countries and territories where SIMCC manages the ICAS competitions: Brunei, China, Hong
Kong, Macau, and Singapore, we will accept ONE ICAS award for entry into IJHS.

YALA and other scholarships are awarded to students with the highest points, from international local
SIMCC competitions based on perfect scores and gold awards and international global SIMCC
competitions based on individual perfect scores, gold, silver, and overall champion individual
awards. University scholarships will also require students to meet the university entrance
requirements as well as receive a gold award and above for a specific competition, such as the AMO
gold award and IJHS lifetime membership, in order to win the Southern Illinois University (SIU) 4-year
STEM undergraduate scholarship.
