Tips on writing the assignment

The assignment has to be written on specific form of Bangla language. You may take any variety
of Bangla e.g. oral, written, standard, colloquial, dialect etc. as your research subject.

The assignment can be divided into several sections,

Introduction
It is important to start the assignment with an introduction that should include a brief background
mentioning what the assignment will discuss, the aim/purpose of writing this assignment. You
may also provide a brief historical discussion of your research subject.

Theoretical background
This section contains the description of the analyzing tools and the process as well that you will
use to analyze your subject. For instance, if you are going to show the pronunciation style of
young people of Bangladesh, you need to describe the basic phonetic and phonological theories
in this section.

Research methodology
You are required to mention in which way you will conduct your work. There are basically two
types of research methods: a) quantitative method b) qualitative method.

If the numbers of participants are more than 15, the work will be preceded by quantitative
method. In this case a hypothesis/statement has to be taken and you have to prove the hypothesis.
For example, suppose you are going to work on the use of Bangla adjectives among the young
Bangalee speakers. You may take a hypothesis like, “Banglaee young people do not use the
adjective chomotkar in their daily conversation”. After collecting and analyzing data, the
hypothesis will be either proved or disproved. Then you may provide another hypothesis at the
end of your work.

If you are going to work with written form e.g. literary text, print media, wall writing etc. of
Bangla or the numbers of participants are less than 15, then you have to conduct the research by
qualitative method. In this case a research question has to be formed. For instance, if you are
going to work on the use of adjectives in Bangla advertisement, you may ask a question like,
how do Bangla adjectives use in advertisement? You may also ask several questions in this
method.

Data analysis
Using linguistic (e.g. phonetic, morphological) tools you may analyze your data in this section.
Discussion
In this section you have to provide the findings of your work. You may show the existing
argument(s) as well as your own opinion about the subject.

Reference

It would be better if you follow the American Psychological Association’s (APA) citation format
to provide necessary references. APA’s citation format is given below,

For books, last name of the author, first name of the author. Year of publication. Name of the
book (Italic). City: name of publishers

Others

Length of the assignment: 5-7 pages

Font size: 12 (The New Roman/ Calibri) for English, 13 (Avro/Bijoy) for Bangla
