o come up with and shared possible solutions

Stage Procedure Materials Time

Warm up Welcome participants and thank them for coming. 15

minutes
Introduce yourself.
Tell teachers that you are going to start with a short getting to know you activity,
and then provide them with some information about PDCs and the topic for
today’s session.
Ice-breaker: Two truths and a lie
The facilitator (F) writes two true and one wrong sentence about him/herself on
the board before the meeting starts.
Instructions
● There are three sentences on the board about me. Two of them are true
and one is a lie. Ask me questions to find the lie.
After the participants (Ps) have found the lie, it’s their turn.
● Now think of 3 sentences about yourself – two are true and one is a lie.
● ICQ: Should you write on your paper which sentence is the lie? (No)
● Work with a partner and try to find out each other’s lies.
After the activity is over, conduct a short feedback session.
● Can anyone tell me something interesting about their partner?

Intro to PDCs Introduction to PDC: Kahoot 10

minutes
● F asks what a PDC is and elicits some ideas. Internet
● Then set up the Kahoot game for Ps to find out more about PDC. Screen and projector
Kahoot link
● Clarify F role – remind the group that you are not a trainer.
● The idea of a PDC is that the group will learn as a result of co-operation,
through sharing ideas and experiences and working together to solve
common problems.

Listening: Lead in: Parasite Game 35

Engage and ● F divides the Ps into 3 groups Sentences minutes
Share
● One group makes a line outside the class (Group A)
● The 2nd group makes a line opposite the first line, facing them (Group C)
● The 3rd group makes a line between the 1st and 2nd lines (Group B)
● Group A is given a paper with some sentences on it (see below)
● Group A has to try tell Group C the sentences while Group B tries to
block them.
● When they guess a sentence, the Ps can change roles.

Sentences
1. Listening is a receptive skill.
2. Listening doesn’t require any production.
3. While listening to an audio, our brains are active.
4. Doing listening activities is unnecessary.
5. Before listening, the teacher should set clear instructions.
6. We listen to an audio just to understand the main idea.

● After the game is finished, ask the Ps:

Did you like the game?
Could you use it with your students?
What is our topic today?

● Show the sentences on the screen and ask the Ps to work in groups to
decide if the sentences are true or false.
● Hold feedback.
Gallery Walk Posters
● F puts some posters on the wall with some titles written on them (Learner
problems, Teacher problems, Physical problems)
● Divide the class into 3 groups and assign one poster to each group. Ps
brainstorm problems for their poster. After a few minutes, get the groups
to go to the next poster.
● After they have visited all the posters, tell them to visit each poster again
and write some solutions to the problems.
● Then get the groups to sit down and give one poster to each group.
● Read through all the ideas on the poster and decide on the top three
problems and the best solutions.
● Each group chooses a spokesperson to share with the whole group.

Reflect and Apply 20

Evaluate (and minutes
● Put Ps into small groups and assign a page from the coursebook.
APPLY)
● According to the solutions brainstormed earlier, groups think of how to
adapt the materials.
● Create new groups (so that each group has one member from each of
the old groups) and they share their ideas.

Reflect
● Ask Ps to choose two things they want to try in their future classes and
talk about why with a partner.

Communication Collect teachers’ details to set up a whats app group (or other preferred method see p. 36 of PDC 5 minutes
