Roof opening in ablution area
PROBLEM
The ablution area in this house has a roof opening measuring 3m long and 2m wide. The
function of the openings is for natural lighting and air circulation. Initially there was no cover
for this opening so that too much sunlight entered and caused the temperature in the room to
feel hot and when the rainy season come, rainwater would enter the ablution area and creating
splashes of water around the floor of the ablution area.
SOLUTION
 The first solution given was to cover the opening with asbestos, but the room behind it
became dark.

 The second solution is to replace asbestos with a skylight roof. The skylight roof is
made of glass so that light can still enter but the ablution area can be protected from
raindrops.

Prayer space requirements
PROBLEM
The problem with this house in the city of North Surabaya lies in the arrangement and
condition of the prayer room, the prayer room only uses a cupboard as a room divider while
the room is adjacent to the dining room, where noise from activities in the dining room can
disrupt worship activities, thus disturbing the comfort of worship for homeowners because
the noise generated from the dining room is quite high.

SOLUTION
 The solution is to make a room dividing wall, to dampen the noise generated by the
surrounding room.
 The dividing wall with a size of 15 cm
 Walls composed of red bricks which have a relatively low price value so they don't incur
high costs, then covered with plaster so that the wall surface doesn't get dirty quickly and
the room looks clean
 The size of the prayer room is according to the standard, namely 70 x 140 cm which is taken
from the standard size of the prayer rows.

spiral staircase solution for narrow spaces
PROBLEM
The problem with this house is on the stairs. The size of the stairs that are too small and narrow
makes the user uncomfortable to use the stairs. Not only that, these stairs also take up a lot of space
so that small rooms become narrower and less flexible to occupy. For a comfortable and ideal size of
stairs, they must have a minimum width at least 80cm to 110cm. Not only that, each rung of the
ladder also has an ideal height, starting from 22cm to 27cm per rung so that users can go up and
down the stairs safely.

SOLUTION
one way that can be done is to make a spiral staircase. Judging from its shape, a circular staircase or
spiral staircase is clearly a good solution for narrow houses because it can save more space. not only
that spiral stairs have relatively cheaper prices compared to ordinary stairs. Spiral stairs can add
visual interest to a minimalist home. While this ladder may look complicated, it's actually quite easy
to assemble.
