TITLE OF PROJECT:
“ 5 Voltage Regulated mobile charger .“
_________________________________________________________________________________________

Objectives:

A voltage regulator is a component of the power supply unit that ensures a steady
constant voltage supply through all operational conditions. It regulates voltage during power
fluctuations and variations in loads. In an electric power distribution system, voltage regulators may be
installed at a substation or along distribution lines so that all customers receive steady voltage
independent of how much power is drawn from the line.

Introduction:

Automatic voltage regulation is a process of converting the alternating voltage into a steady voltage. An

automatic voltage regulator is an electronic equipment that is used and designed to maintain the constant

voltage level. This device prevent malfunctioning and damaging of the electrical equipment. Automatic

voltage regulator uses electromechanical and electronic components of various types and designs. One

of the important sources of DC Supply are Batteries. But using batteries in sensitive electronic circuits

is not a good idea as batteries eventually drain out and lose their potential over time. Also, the voltage

provided by batteries are typically 1.2V, 3.7V, 9V and 12V. This is good for circuits whose voltage

requirements are in that range. But, most of the TTL IC’s work on 5V logic and hence we need a

mechanism to provide a consistent 5V supply

Components Required:

• AC source 220 Vrms .

• Switch
• Transformer step-up
• 4 diodes (0.7v)
• capacitor 1000uf
• capacitor 0.1uf
• capacitor 1uf
• resistor 740ohm
• resistor 240ohm
• IC-LM317H .

Explaintion of IC_LM317H(7805) how it work.

7805 is a 5V fixed three terminal positive voltage regulator IC. The IC has features
such as safe operating area protection, thermal shut down, internal current limiting
which makes the IC very rugged. Output currents up to 1A can be drawn from the
IC provided that there is a proper heat sink. A 9V transformer steps down the main
voltage, 1A bridge rectifies it and capacitor C1 filters it and 7805 regulates it to
produce a steady 5Volt DC. The circuit schematic is given below.

How it works:

A couple of capacitors a Schottky diode and an inductor of all that is needed

to make this ACto DC cell phone charger circuit. The output generates an
accurate 5 volts which becomes very much suitable for charging a cell phone.
The input voltage has a wide range, right from 7V to 60V, any level may be
applied which results in the required 5 volts at the output. The inductor is
introduced specifically for obtaining a pulsed output at around 52 kHz.Half
of the energy from the inductor is used back for charging the cell phone
ensuring that the IC remains switched only for half the charging cycle period.
This keeps the IC cool and keeps it effectively working even without using a
heatsink. This ensures power saving as well as efficient functioning of the
entire unit for the intended application. The input may be derived from any
DC source like an automobile battery.
