Simulation of the shot sleeve wave dynamics in high pressure

die casting
This research migration project aims to simulate the optimum plunger acceleration in the shot
sleeve of HDPC (High pressure die casting) machines using OpenFOAM. The simulation uses the
multiphase fluid solver, interDyMFoam to simulate a 3D wave dynamics and compare the results of
the simulation against the theoretical data from Lopez et.al [1]. The project aims to migrate the
study by Korti and Abboudi [2] which used ANSYS fluent for numerical simulation of the free
surface during the two-dimensional flow and solidification of aluminum in the horizontal cylinder
and mold cavity of the high pressure die casting HPDC machine with cold chamber.
