Traditional OpenFOAM tutorials are written for robustness first them accuracy.

It is evident that for

some cases, the numerical schemes play an important role. Here, the schemes are discussed by
considering a moving piston in a shot sleeve. Different combinations of the schemes will be
presented and the effect of these schemes on the flow pattern will be evaluated.

The geometry is a 2D shot sleeve with 457.2mm length. The mesh is fully orthogonal so we don’t
need any non-orthogonal correctors. The case studies will be compared with a dam break
fvSchemes for robustness.

DamBreak case worked fine. By changing the ddt scheme to CrankNicolson 0.5, the results were
the same. No changes in the flow was detected.
