performed to identify, isolate, and rectify a fault so that the failed equipment,
machine, or asset can be restored to an operational condition within the
tolerances or limits established for in-service operations.

What is It

How can tools and equipment be kept safe, clean and functional?

It is vital to sterilize metal implements, sanitize wooden tools, disinfect hand

and foot spa machines as well as environmental surfaces before and after each use.
Contaminated tools can cause bacterial and fungal infections that are unsightly, painful
and sometimes, fatal. There are several methods of cleaning and sterilization. Do a
cursory cleaning after each nail care service and deep-clean monthly to keep tools
safe and useful all the time.
1.Sterilize metal implements after each use in a hospital-grade disinfectant that is
bactericidal, viruscidal, and fungicidal. This disinfectant can be found in beauty
supply stores. Immerse the tools in the disinfectant for 10 minutes.
2. Disinfect foot basins after each use with a bleach solution. Make a 1-to-10 solution
by mixing one-part bleach with 10 parts water. Using gloves, rinse the basin
with the solution to disinfect. If necessary, scrub with a detergent to remove any
dirt or debris.
3. Use a boiling method of sterilization once a month to disinfect all metal implements.
Designate one pot for sterilization to prevent cross-contamination with food.
Submerge the tools in boiling water for 10 minutes. Drain the tools and allow
them to dry.
4. Store sterilized metal implements in an airtight, zipper-sealed bag to keep them from
being exposed to dirt and bacteria. Be sure tools are completely dry before
storing them. If waiting more than a couple of weeks before the next nail care
service, sterilize the tools again before use.
5. Inspect tools and equipment regularly to identify defective ones for repair,
replacement or condemnation.

How to Clean and Disinfect Your Nail Tools at Home

Raise your hand if you are guilty of not cleaning your nail clippers or callus
removing tools after use? Do you think that just rinsing them off with hot water is
enough? Sorry guys, it is not! We as human carry bacteria on our bodies that when
exposed to cut in our skin, can potentially cause painful or life- threatening infections.
This is why it is required by law for nail salons to follow specific sanitizing and
disinfecting procedures with their equipment.
Cleaning your tool
1.Always start off by washing your hands with soap and water.

2. Place your scrub brush into bowl and pour 70% to 90%
isopropyl alcohol over it until the brush is completely submerged.
Allow your brush to soak for 5 minutes. Once you know your
brush is sanitized, you can use it to clean your other tools.
3. Add antibacterial soap to your brush and use it to your nail
clippers, glass nail files and callus removing tool. Your goal is to
remove debris build-up.
4. Once you are done scrubbing, rinse off the tools with hot
water until all of the soap is gone.
Disinfecting your tools
Place your nail clippers, glass nail files and callus removing tool
into a clean bowl.

Again, using the isopropyl alcohol, cover your tools completely.

Allow them to sit in the solution for 30 minutes. If you do not have
isopropyl alcohol, you can boil your metal in water for 20 minutes.

b. Place the tools/implements in a

70% to 90% alcohol solution for 20
minutes.
c. Remove the tools/implements from
solution, wipe them dry, and place them into
a dry sterilizer.
3. Steps in Sanitizing Wooden Implements

place them into the jar, handles up, except for metal nail
files
