ABSTRACT

In the distribution of fluid flow in pipelines, energy losses often occur. These losses
can be caused by friction with the walls, changes in cross-section, joints, pipe bends,
branching of pipes and other special losses. By knowing the loss or loss of energy in a
system or piping installation that utilizes flowing fluid as a medium, the efficiency of
energy use can be increased so that maximum benefits are obtained. One part of the
piping installation that often causes energy loss is a change in cross section, friction
on the pipe wall and bends in the pipe.

More than sixty thousand people have used clean water services at PDAM Seberang
Ulu Unit, Palembang city. With the large number of customers, the need for clean
water and energy losses due to bends, friction in the pipes and the length of the pipes
can be a loss for customers and the PDAM.

Energy loss is a factor that affects the capacity of the pipe as a means of conducting
liquids where there is a reduction in flow rate. Energy loss can be caused by the
coefficient of friction in the pipe, changes in the cross section of the pipe, bends in the
pipe and the length of the pipe can also affect

And the results of the analysis of losses due to friction in the pipe are the highest in
the pipe with the smallest diameter, which is 160 mm diameter of 256.17 Newton. For
changes in cross-section the maximum loss is found in a pipe with a diameter of 200
mm to a pipe with a diameter of 160 mm 1.93 Newton. For the maximum energy loss
due to pipe bends, there is a pipe that has an angle of 90⁰ with a diameter of 160 mm
of 4.04 Newton
