the graph
Step 1: Domain, determine what type function it is and whether there are any
restrictions on the domain

Step 2: Intercepts, Solve for the x and y intercepts

Step 3: Symmetry, Find the symmetry

Step 4: Asymptotes find if there are any vertical or horizontal asymptotes

Step 5: Identify intervals of increase or decrease using the first derivative

Step 6: Find the Maximum and Minimum points

Step 7: Establish intervals of concavity

Step 8: Find points of inflection

Step 9: Sketch the curve

2.

Step 2: Find the second derivative

Step 3: Set the second derivative to zero and slove for x

Step 4: Establish the intervals

Step 5: Set up the table

Step 6: Identify the intervals of concavity

Assignment for Feedback curve sketching

Step 7: Identify points of inflection

Task 3: Define any three of the following

1. Point of inflection: A point is a point of inflection if the curve changes from

concave upward to concave downward or vice versa
2. Vertical asymptote: A vertical line that graphs the function as it approaches
as x tends to
3. Horizontal asymptote: Horizontal lines that graphs the function as it
approaches as x tends to

Task 4: Reflection
My strengths in this unit were finding the first derivative, the first and second
derivative tests.
My weaknesses were: Finding the limits of concavity and finding the horizontal
and vertical asymptotes.

Seeking out worksheets on these topics and practicing them as well as practicing
sketching as many graphs as I could helped me progress as an independent
learner.
