B: GROUP ASSIGNMENT

Question B1: On video Loc 00:21, the hawker shakes his head, why do you think
the hawker shakes his head?
Ans: Hawker thinks that the guy is wasting the food.

Question B2: On video Loc 00:33, the spectacle shop owner shakes his head,
why do you think the man shake his head?

Ans: Shop owner think that he is being cheated.

Question B3: Loc 00.43 to 01.17: the caption show “HE GETS NOTHING” In this
business communication video, analyse whether he really “gets nothing?”

Ans: No. He gets emotions. He feels satisfied and happy for helping people, to put
a smile on other people’s face.

Question B4: Loc 02.04, the caption shows: “What he does receive are
emotions?
Discuss the impact of emotions in business communications writing. Give
examples of emotions that are relevant in your daily business transactions.

Ans: When emotions are expressed appropriately, senders are able to formulate a
message that reflects their internal status and intentions while considering
audience needs and perceptions. The audience, too, benefits by receiving a
clearer and more easily understood message. Emotions can affect communication
in many ways.

Joy – Gathering the team together to celebrate every time a sale of deal is made.
Gratitude – Thanking a colleague when they help me with a task.
Question B5: Loc 02.33, the captions shows “Receives what money can’t buy”,
analyze this statement, describe how this statement reflects the power of this
video in terms of communications to the audience.

Ans: Every one aspire to have money and wealth to get everything they want, but
at some point, you realize that there are things money can’t buy. Even if money is
the key to getting all the material things you wish you had, at the end of the day,
money can’t buy happiness, contentment or time. These things are intangible
things that can’t be felt in the physical sense but can be felt deep within your
heart.

Question B6: Based on the video, discuss whether any members of your group
have experienced such as emotions in your workplace or at home or with
friends or with strangers.

Ans: Emotions at home. After a long day at work, reaching home to my kids smile
makes me happy.
With stranger, feel happy to be an animal shelter volunteer to help and save
those stray dog and cat in dangerous situations or helping them to look for a
place called home.
A lot of things happened at my work place. Helping a stranger to pay for their
passport renewal and then they paynow to me. With friends, as I am foreigner
working far away from my hometown, I will miss my friends at some point of
time. So to get to see each other after a few years, makes me happy.
Question B7: Based on the video. Discuss whether after your group had watch
this video, is there any change in your perception in life? The assumption is that
a good communication medias such as this video, can be great mechanism for
conversation and reflection. The power of strong business or personal
communication message can impact upon people of most walk of life
experience from the working class to the super rich. And it provides a common
experience for society to talk about issues which are important for all of us.
Mr Edward, I feel the very big impact because the small help makes a big change
to other people life. If everybody changes we can make our country be better.
Mr Cheo Thiam Hong, I feel happy and satisfied after watching the video because
most of the time when my colleagues ask for help, I will happily help without
asking for anything in return.
Mr Lim Chee Siang, after watching this video, I feel that I can find in helping other
is a virtue.
Ms. Lu Qiuyan, the video taught me no matter how small the help it was, it could
be a huge motivation for others. You may not see the results right away while
offering helps, but the returns will come sooner or later.

Q8: Question: Discuss how you rate this video in terms of the ability to convey
the message to the audience. Give a reason on your rating based on:
Ans: Excellent video
This video makes me cry and feel touched how this man can help others despite
the fact that he also needed some help himself. He chooses to share with people
what he has although he doesn’t have much, and because of him, he
changed/helped other people’s life. This means that even 1 person can change
the people around him by doing good deeds without asking or expecting anything
in return.
Q9. Question: What is the central theme of the video in terms of
communication to the audience, that is, what is the video trying to tell the
audience?
Ans: This video is showing us communication is not limited to the spoken
language, a part of that body language such as an eyesight, a smile, a hug and
other body languages could show more than a sentence. There are at least 6
distinct types of communication: non-verbal, verbal-oral-face-to-face, verbal-oral-
distance, verbal-written, formal and informal types of communication.

You do not need to be rich to be able to help the needy. If you have much, give
your wealth, if you have little give your heart. Money and fame will not last
forever, but how you touched other’s life will always stay behind.
