Question 1

Explain the statement ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’.

A picture is worth a thousand words, this phrase was originated in America in earl 1900s,
Frederick Barnard introduced this phrase in an article “One look is worth a thousand words”
source from Chinese proverb “one picture is worth ten thousand words” the phrase developed
over time to what we know now, the phrase put emphasis on how powerful an image is, the
phrase means a picture can convey more than words can.

Every day we take a picture, capture a moment as memory and when we look back at that
picture it all comes back, and these specific memories are not written down by us but that
picture bring out many emotions that even if we try to write it won’t be possible to express it.
This is because human have higher visual capacity, that why we can imagine and be create. It
is much easy to express looking at an image, than putting heavy vocabulary to get the point
out, while a picture gives a freedom to express and interpret every person might have
multiple way of looking at the picture and have different perspective and bring out different
interpretation of the picture. A drawing can show what in one look what thousand words
cannot.

Example

1. Newspaper cover more picture of an event than putting it in text, because a picture is
worth a thousand words.
2. I wanted to write a letter to my friend as a gift for her birthday but I found our first
photo and gifted it, as a picture is worth a thousand words
3. While assembling anything I prefer following picture than read the instruction text.

Question 3
“One of the ways to develop a positive attitude is when one chooses to be happy.” Give
three examples where you made this choice in order to manage your stress better.

Positivity comes harder than negative thought, its human nature to lean and fall for negative
thoughts, to be insecure, to be scared, frustrated and angry. This emotions are called blues, it
makes a man dull and make him lose is capability, eventually leading to more serious damage
like having depression, ill mood anxiety, etc. to get out of these emotion and feel positive is a
difficult thing at first, to have that discipline of thought and habits, I personally never thought
or even imagined that taking care of my own self will be such a task, even if that includes
drinking right amount of water.

In 2020 and now in 2021 everyone is talking about self-case, positive attitude toward one self
and self-care is related and intertwines with each other. You’re the first and the only person
who is responsible to take care of yourself and keep yourself happy, to give someone else this
responsibility when you’re a healthy and capable human being is not fair to that person, and
this happiness must come from within.

Business and Managerial Communication

The best way to be happy and be positive is to learn to accept and walk away from the things
that are toxic to you, the key accept is to be grateful toward the thing you already have, and if
there is something negative around you, focus on something that is positive. I do this practice
by thinking about one good thing about my day every time something goes against my liking.
Find solution to the problem instead on complaining about the problem, this will improve the
outlook on life and improve problem dealing and bring of confidence to stand against the
problem.

Three example.

1. Something that gives me happiness is creating, either art or simple sketch. It’s also a
way to express my emotions to me, if I feel blue then I sit and draw something related
to how I am feeling with the passing time, I take those emotions out on the paper and
start feeling better eventually.
2. I maintain a gratitude journal, it always good to be grateful towards the thing you
have and acknowledge it. It’s really helpful by doing this I focus more on positive
thought than the negative ones.
3. Feeding stray animals and keep water outside the gate for them every day, helping
them makes me happy and positive. it’s the beautiful feeling to see a dog wag its tail
every time it sees you.

Question 4

According to you, in the ‘Ten Commandments of Listening’ as formulated by Keith Davis

and John Newstrom, which are the four most important commandments? Give reasons to
support your answer.

Imagine talking and not having anyone listen to you, there won’t be a point of such
communication at the first place, poor listening is a doom of oral communication. Listening is
not an easy task, you don’t just have to listen but try to understand, form your own view
point, have questions, have an opinion and wait for your turn to express all this. If you expect
other to listen to you, you must learn to listen to other people as well, train your mind to
capture the words of speaker.

The ten commandment of listening are the basic guideline provided, these commandment aee
formulated by Keith Davis and John w. Newstrom.

The Ten Commandments are as follows.

1. Stop talking – Most of us want to talk before we listen, we focus more on what we
will say on certain topic then listen to what other has to say about it.
2. Put the speaker at ease – it is very normal for a person to be nervous while speaking,
it’s the listener job to put the speaker to easy, so that he can convey the message with
easy and its fullest potential

3. Remove distraction – try not to distract the speaking by any kind of gesture or action,
is not only shows your lack of interest but also can make the speaker get distracted
and miss out on important point, or get upset by the lack of interest shown by you.
4. Show the talker that you want to listen – by doing this the confidence of the speaker
will boost and it will be convenient for them to speak with ease, the speaker will
know that you are interested in understanding him and not just for the sake of it
5. Empathize with the talker – put yourself in the shoes of the speaker, it will not only
help you understand them better but will also help you connect to the person and have
better communication
6. Be patient – wait for your turn because that is something you will want the other
person to do when you’re talking, constantly interrupting is not just rude but can be
extremely distracting leading the person lose their interest in talking.
7. Hold your temper – angry is a man worst enemy, may that be in life in general or in
communication, accept the idea that everyone will not have same opinion as your and
learn to respect other people opinion.
8. Go easy on argument and criticism – disagreeing with the point spoken is fine, find a
way to put it forward with easy, as getting in the argument will just ruin the flow of
conversation.
9. Ask question – asking a question is a best way to show that you’re listening but
remember not to ask random question which are either stupid or not relevant to the
topic be smart, your question can make you stand out or get you hate from the crowd.
10. Stop talking – lastly again, stop talking and listen.

Four most important according to me are.

1. Putting the speaker to easy, if the person is not comfortable with you, they will not put
forward the point and have easy communication with you, putting your speaker to
easy will help them open up and smooth the flow of communication
2. Show the talker that you want to listen, this can be done by asking question and being
patient while listening.
3. Empathize with the talker, if you try to see their side and perspective it will help you
to understand the matter much better.
4. Hold your temper, not all communication will be in your favour, it’s easy to get upset
over it learn to hold your angry and understand. There should not be that because of
your angry issue people stop communicating, if you’re someone in the position of
management or authority this will cause lot of problem and create lack of
communication.

Question 5
As a law student give one example as to how can you use the 3-2-1 reading strategy
while referring to your reference books?

The 3-2-1 reading is, a way of learning that school and even colleges adapt, while growing up
we are taught this method, and we have used this method knowingly or subconsciously. This
is the standard method we use while making note, or in class room.

 Three important learning outcome from the text,

 two supporting detail from the text of those learning outcome and
 one question about each learning outcome.

Taking example of Law of Crime, section 375 which deals with rape. While studying this
particular topic the three important learning and focus outcomes are, what is the basic
definition given by law, what is covered in the broader perspective of rape in the eyes of law,
and what consent and without consent means in law. For the supporting details, more
research will require like case law to support, the other section that needs to be read with, etc.
For the question of each text, I form question that will help me understanding the main text,
for example my question is without consent, while trying to answer this question I will cover
points like unsound mind, intoxication, misconception etc., which is an important part of my
topic that can be missed easily.
