A. INTRODUCTION
1. Greet the audience: Good afternoon, class!

2. Introduce yourself: It’s me, Phuong Lien, from class 19clc02.

3. Gain the audience’s interest & attention: I guess that you guys are really fed up with my
uploading a lot of photos into social media. Someone said that looking at my story, you could
know all of my life. So maybe you already see a bunch of photos about me attending a volunteer
campaign at the end of last semester, right?

4. Introduce the topic and establish the speaker’s credibility: I am a lucky person who has been
chosen to be a member of our faculty’s Spring Volunteer Campaign. I had an amazing and
memorable time and I realize that volunteering is a must-try experience for any teenagers like us.

5. Give the central idea of the speech: Volunteering not only offers help for people who are in need
but also gives each individual greater benefits for their personal development and for their life.

6. Relate the topic to the audience: We are so proud that our university is where Spring Volunteer
Campaign started in 2005 and spread all over universities in Ho Chi Minh City. I also know that
many of you here were going to join this campaign but unfortunately for some reasons you could
not attend that this year. But we have a lot of time and chances and Spring Volunteer Campaign
always welcome all of you guys.

7. Give the specific purpose of the speech: So today I really want to tell you my volunteering story,
my most unforgettable experience in my life up to present. I hope that it might motivate you for
your next year’s attendances!

8. Give the outline/overview of the speech: What I am going to tell you guys are things that we can
receive and things that we can send when we attending Spring Volunteer Campaign.

9. Inform the audience of the time for questions: There absolutely has a Q&A section at the end of
my speech, so ask me anything that you wonder about that okay?

B. BODY
I. There are many things that you send to others in Spring Volunteer Campaign. 
find another attractive way of expressing this idea
1. Volunteering spreads and motivates people by its speciality and great humanity,
that’s the reason why I choose Spring Volunteer Campaign but not other volunteer
campaign.
Fact: This campaign lasts for more than 2 month until some last days of lunar New Year so this is
also called the campaign that brings Tet to people. The time preparing for Tet is also the most
difficult and a pressure with a lot of low-income family. In difficulty, everybody is eager for help.
In some desperate moments, I hope that I can be the one to help them, even can change their
thought, and make them feel somewhat optimistic about life. This campaign is really meaningful

and helpful that brings a warm and cozy Tet holiday to people. Also, I admire a lot of volunteers
that pause going home for Tet but staying and coming to a remote countryside to do good things.
2. Volunteering gives us chances to help other’s life, better the society and contribute to
the community. We give them “hope”. “Hope” for a better life with kindness, “hope”
that they can do, “hope” that they can live at any cost.  one single idea
Evidence: We earn money during these two months every day to have as much money as possible
for the gifts. Going to the pagoda together to distribute charity rice, selling things in the park at
weekends, teaching the children skills to prevent child sexual abuse, going to the poor households
to cook them a meal, make Tet cake like a gift to the elderly and local people. I saw the tear on a
women face when receive our meal. At the gala night, we sang, danced and gave a lot of presents.
Everyone smiled at me and said thanks to me. At that moment, I realized that I did it. I am so
proud of myself. Never until then, I’ve known that making others happy is the happiest thing in
life.

(Transition) However, the things that you send to others cannot compare with the
things that you receive from volunteering.

II. There are many things that you receive from others in Spring Volunteer
Campaign.
1. Social and soft skills:  a complete statement
- After any volunteer work, I don’t dare to say that you will certainly be more self-confident, but I
am sure that you will not be shy in front of people anymore.
Evidence: It gives you chances to meet new friends, from a lot of universities, divisions or classes;
to regularly meet a group of people with common interests, which makes us widen our
relationship.

- Volunteering also teaches you a lot of soft skills for example:

+ Teamwork (evidence: we have many performances at the gala night so all members has to practice
singing and dancing a lot together)

+ Problem solving (evidence: I have to wonder how to meet the target of personal fund-raising
weekly, how can I earn money and what I should do when the I don’t have enough money in the
deadline day)

+ Project planning (evidence: that is the first time I am an organizer of an program, so I have learn a
lot from the seniors. Everyone has each own position and role in that program, I have to strictly follow
the schedule, be responsible for doing my best at assigned mission)

 2. Fun and happiness:  a complete statement
- Many people say volunteering is just painful but in contrast it brings me a lot of fun and
unforgettable memory.
Evidence: We go everywhere together at the weekend for centralized fund-raising, which means
we come to the markets or the pagodas or some crowed streets to ask for help. I received a large

amount of money from sponsors which makes us really thankful. We also receive a lot of toys,
clothes, school things, bottles…I remember a really cute moment when we went to a house in the
market, they don’t trade so they don’t have anything for us. They immediately took the car on their
son’s hands, put it in a plastic bag and gave us, which is really funny and adorable. We are proud
of being a place for them to send their faith and helping them to bring their kindness to others.

- For the first time in my life, I feel like I have explored my potential interest, I laughed so much
when I am with my interesting friends.
Evidence: I always expect every Thursday sitting in a circle to meet all the team, sharing each own
difficulties, laughing to the jokes from some humorous brothers, tell others little things in life. I
feels really happy and honor to have chance to work with many excellent people. Some sisters
gave me advice for the 2nd language, a brother let me know how to get on well with others, my
friend shaved my eyebrows and did my make-up. Being together just for more than two months,
but I have received so much love from the other members and the time of Spring Volunteer
Campaign is always one of my happiest moments in my life.

C. CONCLUSION
1. Signal the ending: I know a really popular quotes in Vietnamese that I think some of you here
have heard about it at least once. Does there anybody know this quotes? A quotes about our youth:

"Youth is like heavy rain.

Even though you catch a cold, you are still forward to experiencing it once again"

2. Give the final thoughts/comments/message: We don’t know what happens tomorrow, we don’t
know how much time left for us, all we can do is to live life to the fullest.

3. Summarize the main points: Volunteering especially Spring Volunteer Campaign might cost you
a lot of time, effort and hard work, but please believe in me, it’s worth exchanging, because it is
valuable.

4. Restate the central idea of the speech: We are just freshmen, we are still young, we have time
and have so much more enthusiasm than anyone else. Why we don’t give ourselves a chance to
contribute, to experience, to live differently, to try something new and to change your life.
Volunteer and other social activities always welcome all of us. With plenty of benefits that
volunteering have, I hope that I will see you at Spring Volunteer Campaign next year. Thank you!

 The topic is quite interesting, and the ideas are well-developed. However, just a little reminder
about the time limit  so, be selective about the examples/evidence you want to show the
audience.
