: I am Opal Ireland, a passionate Talent Acquisition leader with 15 + years of cross functional
experience in Talent Acquisition, Organizational Development, Employee Communications and
Employee Engagement.

The organization I work for is Spencer’s Retail Limited it an Indian chain of retail stores
headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal. It has presence in over 35 cities. Spencer's is based on the
'Food First' Format. Many outlets offer multiple formats for retailing food, apparel, fashion,
electronics, lifestyle products, music and books.

- Brief Information on how the HR department functions in the company. Like


organizational structure and all that: What is the role of the HR department in the
organisation?
: The HR team at spencer’s operate with some major HR function such as Talent acquisition,
Compensation and benefit , Centralized regional HR operation, learning and development and
Administration, all of these functions reports to the CHRO

some of the roles of HR Departments are Talent acquisition & management, compensation and
employee benefits, training and development, compliance, administration and workplace safety. The
HR department helps to drive sales to meet business needs by effectively managing the employee
lifecycle.

- The recruitment and selection policies of the company: What are the recruitment and
selection policies of the organisation?
: The recruitment & placement of people is based on an analysis of the requirement of jobs and on
the use of suitable selection techniques & procedures. The recruitment process begins after
determining the number and type of personnel needed by the Organization based on projection of
manpower needs, job description & specification.

- Training and development of employees: How does the organisation manage the training
and development of new and existing employees?
: The Various Training and development programs for employees at the organization are :

- Compensation structure: What is the compensation structure at the different levels of


the organisation? What other benefits does the organisation offer to the employees?
: The compensation structure generally consists of Basic Pay, HRA, Conveyance, Special Allowance,
PF and Gratuity, Compensation structure are broadly of 2 types (Executive to Asst Manager) &
(Manager to AGM) the fixed and variable components vary for 10% to 12% for different levels.
