AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT:

• To analyze I-V characteristic of a diode,
• I-V characteristic of Zener diode, and
• transient analysis for AC source

TOOLS AND APPARATUS:

S.NO APPARATUS RANGE/NAME (of TYPE QUANTITY

Component)
1. Resistor 1k ohm Wire 1
Wound

2. Diode 1N4148 Silicon 1

3. Zener Diode BZX84C6V2L Zener 1

4. Voltmeter (0-10) V MC 1

5. AC power supply (0-10) V RPS 1

Software Used: LTSpice

THEORY AND DESIGN:
SIMULATION:
1. I-V characteristic of a diode
• Forward Bias
• Reverse Bias
2. I-V characteristic of Zener diode
3. Transient analysis for AC source
RESULT:
From the graph of I-V characteristic of diode,
V= 560 mV and I =0.6 mA
Therefore,
Static Resistance, R= V = 560 mV
I 0.6 mA
R= 933.33 Ω

CONCLUSION AND INFERENCES:

Learnings:
1. For the diode, certain current flows in forward bias mode.

2. In I-V characteristic of diode, negligible current flows in reverse bias mode

until avalanche breakdown happens.

3. In the I-V graph of diode current increases slightly till knee voltage. Beyond it
current rises exponentially.

4. For I-V characteristic of Zener diode, the more vertical the breakdown region,
the smaller the Zener resistance.

5. Graph for Zener diode shows the maximum reverse current IZM below which
the diode is safe operation.

Mistakes:
• I didn’t put vd (label net) at the correct place i.e., near the diode.

• For the I-V characteristic of diode, I plotted the graph between V1 and I
instead of V(vd) and I, which resulted in wrong graph.

• I placed diode in reverse direction that led to formation of wrong circuit.

• For AC transient analysis, I took the stop time as 20 millisecond that

resulted in incorrect waveform.
