Model answer:
The College of Business Administration is starting a new interdisciplinary PhD program in Environmental
Business Policy which focuses mainly on helping students develop a more practical and multi-perspective
approach to various environmental issues. The man will be graduating from graduate school in several
months’ time. He holds the view that the MBA programs approach to understanding business is too narrow
as it is related to information in other fields. That is why he finds the PhD in Environmental Business Policy
program interesting. He feels that if he pursues this PhD degree, it could help him to focus on
understanding how business knowledge can be applied in different fields of knowledge, especially fields like
biology and political science. This program could help him to specialize in a combination of fields that he is
interested in. The man mentioned that he is already has an interest in the field of environmental ethics and
he is hoping to study in this program to gain practical knowledge of environmental issues.

Model answer: City University announced one of the student’s professors is the winner of this year’s Inert
Prize for Chemistry. She had been rewarded for her research into how liquids are diffused across
membranes at City University. The woman is happy for her professor and thinks she deserves the prize
because she is very dedicated to research on chemistry and she has always been a great mentor. On the
other hand, the woman is a bit sad about her winning the award because she might take off next year to
continue conducting research into protein degradation. This will mean that she won’t have the chance to
take the professor’s class before she finishes her studies. She feels sad that the professor will leave their
faculty in the future/She feels like she can’t bear to part with the professor because the professor has been
very conscientious in regards to teaching and helping the woman. Even so, she is still positive about her
getting the award because a recommendation from her, as a previous mentor who has won a prestigious
award, will seem to be worth a lot more now.
