Concrete
o 3000 Psi for Beams
o 3000 Psi for Slabs
o 4000 Psi for Columns
o Ec = 57000 √𝑓𝑐′ ( calculate both for 3000 and 4000 and write along with it)

Rebar
 Grade 40 for confinement Bars (fy = 40000 psi, fu = 60000 Psi)
 Es for Grade 40 ,29000000 lb/in^2
 Grade 60 Main bars ( fy = 60000 psi, fu = 90000 psi)
 Es for Grade 60 , 29000000 lb/in^2

 Frame Cross-Sections
Beams
o 12” x 18”
o Strength = 3000 Psi
o Clear Cover = 1.5” ( Top Bars and Bottom Bars)
o Stiffness Modifiers for beam about 2 and 3 axis = 0.7 ( ACI Code 6.6.3.1)
o Main Bars Grade 60
o Confinement Bars (Stirrups) Grade 40
( if Span 25’ then 14” x 28” , if 20’ then 12” x 24” just rough estimate)

Columns
o 16” x 16”
o Strength = 4000 Psi
o Clear Cover = 1.5”
o Stiffness Modifiers for column about 2 and 3 axis = 0.3 (ACI Code 6.6.3.1)
o Main Bars Grade 60
o Confinement Bars (Ties) = Grade 40

Slab
 Strength = 3000 Psi
 Clear Cover = 0.75”
 Modeling Type = Shell Thin
 Slab Thickness = Panel Perimeter/180 ( ACI-318-1963)
 If calculated slab thickness is less than 5in than assign minimum thickness 5in (ACI-
TABLE [Table-1])
 Load Patterns
o Dead (self weight multiplier 1)
o Live 0
o EQ x ( Type Seismic , self weight multiplier 0.5 and Auto Lateral Load UBC 97)
 Soil Type SC
 Choose Zone Factor according to zone
 Range : Top storey – Bottom Storey

o EQ y ( same as above)
o Wind Load ( if high rise building otherwise don’t take it)

 Assignment of Loads
o Super Dead Load (ASCE-7) from PDF
o Clay tile = 12 psf
o Mortar for plastering = 10 psf
o Plaster on tile = 5psf
o Live Load (ASCE Table 4-1)
o Check Occupancy of Building and then apply on Slabs
o For schools 80 psf (corridor)
o For roof 20 psf
o Wind Load ( ASCE 7-10 Chapter 30)
o Seismic (UBC 97)

 Assigning Restraints
o Fixed supports to the button of Columns.

 Assigning Diaphrams
o Assign Rigid Diaphrams to the shell elements ( Slabs) for smooth transfer of lateral
loads to the columns

 Assigning Pier and Spandrel Labels to Shear walls if Any

o If any shear wall F,11 F12 and F22 = 0.7

 Load Combinations
o All default load cases for frame structure
o For seismic zone analysis use the following patterns.
o 1.2D + 1.6L + 0.5 (Lr or S)
o 1.441D + 1.1(x-direction + Eccentricity (y)) + 0.55L
o 1.441D + 1.1(x-direction -Eccentricity (y)) + 0.55L
o 1.441D - 1.1(y-direction + Eccentricity (x)) + 0.55L
o 1.441D - 1.1(y-direction - Eccentricity (x)) + 0.55L

 Meshing
o Apply meshing of 4 by 4 for accurate results.

 Check Model
